Impact on the Environment
Environmental changes can have an impact on the environment in different ways:
- Temperature affects the distribution of a species in an ecosystem. Temperature shifts can change how organisms distribute themselves. For example, many species of bird fly south for the winter, in search of warmer climates.
- The availability of water changes the distribution of species in an ecosystem. The distribution of many plants and animals change dependent on rainfall. An incredible phenomenon occurs in the Serengeti as millions of wildebeest migrate from north to south and vice versa in search of water as the rate of rainfall changes.
- The composition of atmospheric gases affects the distribution of a species in an ecosystem. Humans have cleared many areas of forest and burnt very much fuel. This has lead to a huge amount of air pollution. Many species are unable to survive in areas that are very polluted and so have migrated to get away from these areas with high levels of toxic atmospheric gases, such as sulphur
