There was a good mix of practical skills and industry insight. I loved learning about typography and sketching because we actually got to make things and not just watch. The career week helped me figure out that I want to go into branding and visual identity.

This week made me realise how broad the subject graphic design actually is. The studio illustrator session was my favourite because it felt like a real client project and it made me want to put a lot of effort and thought into it. The tutors were really supportive and gave useful feedback.

What will I learn during the arts and graphics programme?

Students will learn key areas of art and graphic design including branding, typography, illustration, and visual communication. The programme also covers digital design skills using industry-style creative tools and techniques. Students work on real design briefs to understand how professional projects are developed. Do I need previous art or design experience?

No previous art or design experience is required to join the Art and Graphic Design Summer Career Camp. The programme is designed for complete beginners as well as students who already study art or design at school. Students are introduced to core creative principles step by step, with full support from expert mentors. This ensures everyone can learn, improve, and build confidence in their creative abilities.

Will I build a portfolio during the camp?

Yes, students will create a creative portfolio throughout the programme. They complete structured design projects, including branding tasks, illustrations, and visual storytelling work. By the end of the camp, students will have portfolio pieces suitable for UCAS applications and future creative studies.

How is the content delivered and will I receive any certification?

The programme is delivered through a mix of creative workshops, studio-based projects, and tutorials led by industry professionals. You’ll work across various design disciplines, from illustration to digital design. At the end of the programme, you’ll receive a certificate recognising your participation which is perfect for adding to your CV and university applications.

What should I bring to the work experience week?

We recommend that students bring a notepad and pen to take notes (or a device to write on). In addition, students should bring a water bottle for the day. Students do not need to bring lunch as this will be provided but they might want to bring a couple of snacks to eat throughout the day.
