→ Can I use the Engineering work experience as part of a DofE gold residential?
Yes you can! As a DofE Approved Activity Provider, Study Mind’s engineering work experience qualifies for the Gold DofE Residential section. As part of this residential, you will take part in organised sessions in the morning, afternoon and evening. You will stay in UCL halls of residence in central London. We believe financial income should not be a barrier so 25% of our places will be given to students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds for absolutely free. We strive to provide diverse and comprehensive work experience opportunities across various fields of engineering. If you're interested in a different engineering field such as marine and naval engineering, please let us know!
→ Do I have to live in the UK to do this?
We ensure convenient arrangements for our international students who reside overseas, as 70% of our student body falls into this category. We facilitate pick-up services from Heathrow airport to the accommodation, where a member of the Study Mind team will greet you. Additionally, if necessary, we will also arrange transportation back to your departure terminal.
→ How old does my child have to be to attend this?
We recommend this course to anyone aged 14-25. This means any child in Year 9 or above or any graduate entry applicant.
→ What is the cancellation policy?
The work experience week is non-refundable once booked. This is because we have to plan for all logistics including accommodation bookings, room bookings and more. If you are unsure whether you can attend but don't want to lose your spot, you can pay a non-refundable deposit of £500 to secure your place. The remaining payment will be due before the start of the course
→ Will my child have to travel between sites alone?
Safety is paramount to our Work Experience week. Your child will always be accompanied by the Study Mind Safeguarding team for any travel needed.
→ What is the accommodation like and where will I be staying?
You will be staying at UCL Accomodation in single rooms where breakfast and dinner will be provided. You will stay here from Sunday night (day before the course), checking out on the last day of the course (Friday) so in total 5 nights. There is 24/7 security and Study Mind staff who are first aid and safeguarding trained will be on site to assist. We can also arrange airport pick up for you.
→ How do I apply for a visa?
Students coming to the UK for the Work Experience will need a Standard Visitor visa- https://www.gov.uk/standard-visitor
The Standard Visitor visa can only be applied for by parents/guardians and costs £100. They must apply through the UK Gov website only, You can name our course and Study Mind as the guardians of under 18s, and provide then the course information and booking confirmation when applying for the visa.
We recommend booking flights first before applying for the visa, as the visa needs proof of a return flight (the course end date might be enough, but might result in rejection).

→ For meals, do you deal with dietary requirements?
Many of our students are based overseas and have specific dietary requirements such as being vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, halal, among others. We will make sure to accommodate these needs and make the necessary adjustments to your meals.
→ I have a health condition, can I still join?
Absolutely, prior to attending the week, we kindly request that you inform us of any health conditions you may have so that we can take necessary precautions beforehand. → Who will be looking after my child?
Throughout the entire duration, your child will receive dedicated support from our Study Mind staff, who possess DBS enhanced checks and comprehensive training in first aid and safeguarding. We ensure that there will always be a female staff member available both on-site and within our accommodation premises. Students will be provided with a 24-hour emergency contact number, which they can reach out to at any time. If necessary, this number can be shared with parents and guardians as well.
→How many days does the Engineering Work Experience run for?
The summer school programme spans across five days, with each day commencing at 9 am and concluding around 3:30 pm. However, you will receive a detailed timetable in advance with specific timings. If you choose to stay at UCL Halls, we have exciting evening activities planned for you, including movie nights, bowling, and various other engaging options. We offer work experience including electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, computer engineering, chemical engineering, and biomedical engineering, among others.
→ Do I need to pay up front?
We understand the challenges posed by the current economic situation when it comes to upfront payments. To provide flexibility, we offer interest-free installment plans for 3, 6, and 12 months. However, please note that a non-refundable deposit of £500 is required to secure your spot.
→ Do I need to book Study Mind's accomodation?
Booking our accommodation is not mandatory. You have the option to either commute or make your own accommodation arrangements if necessary. However, there are advantages to booking our accommodation. By doing so, you will benefit from the support and assistance provided by our dedicated team, and you will also have the opportunity to reside alongside other students participating in the work experience programme.
→ Will Study Mind provide certificates for the week?
Certainly! Without a doubt, all students will receive a tangible certificate that serves as solid evidence of their successful completion and participation in the course. This certificate holds significant value, especially for their UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) application, as many universities require proof of participation.
