About Me
Hi, my name is Louisa Grinyer. I have just graduated from Trinity College, the University of Cambridge with a First-Class BA in English Literature. I’m incredibly passionate about Literature and feel very grateful to have had the opportunity to explore such a diverse range of texts throughout my time at Cambridge. I obtained first class marks in all my final exams and my second year dissertation. Having the privilege to have individual, in depth, weekly supervisions with some of the world leading experts in their fields, I feel well equipped to guide prospective students through the application process. Specific interests include Tragedy, Shakespearean, Early Modern and Restoration Drama, and the novel through the eighteenth to the twentieth century. I have broad poetic interests, with expertise in the Renaissance sonnet, Romantic and Victorian poetry, and the War poets. Moreover, as a result of my passion for acting and writing, I have a strong understanding of contemporary drama. I obtained three A Stars and an A in the A Level Subjects History, English Literature, Theatre Studies, and French, respectively. It has been a pleasure incorporating these alternative interests into my study at Cambridge.
My teaching style
I begin by discussing the student’s goals, before addressing their perceived strengths and weaker areas in order for the student to get the most out of the sessions. My teaching style is multi-faceted and tailored to the needs of the specific student. Key components of my teaching strategy: assessing and providing feedback on written work, setting my own writing tasks, assessing works of literature together to facilitate the kinds of discussion conducted at Oxbridge, mock interviews, mock ELAT style papers, and Personal statement review and support. For students looking to apply to Oxbridge, I offer further guidance on reading and summer preparation to enable student’s individual profiles to stand out.
My past experience
-QED tutor for Oxbridge Applications for English Literature (personal statement support, ELAT preparation, interview preparation)
-A Level English and History tutoring
-Home-schooling children ages 6 and 9 during the Covid-19 pandemic
My Proudest Achievements
Some of my proudest achievements include obtaining a First-Class degree from the University of Cambridge, and becoming a Senior Scholar for Trinity College. I was also very pleased to obtain 3 A*s and an A in my A Levels, and all A*s and 9s in my GCSEs. My political work experience, obtaining my Singing Diploma and my performances with the National Youth Theatre have equally all been very gratifying experiences for me.
