About Me
Hi there! My name’s Oli and I’m a 4th year Astrophysicist at the University of Cambridge, about to start my master’s year. I studied Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry at A-Level, achieving four A* grades, and I obtained 12 GCSEs all at grade 9. I remember my secondary school years fondly but I also often find myself thinking about how hard they were, which is one of the reasons why I’m so keen to help A Level and GCSE students achieve their full academic potential and perhaps even end up at their dream University. If you or your child feel like you could use some extra help preparing for GCSEs/A-Levels, or if you want to explore a particular interest by going beyond your syllabus, then I’m your man!
Having been through the Cambridge admissions process as an applicant, and also being involved from the other side in recent years, I’m uniquely placed to provide both academic tutoring and comprehensive mentoring for Oxbridge applications (e.g. personal statements, admissions tests and mock interviews). As a state school student, I didn’t have much support when applying, so I would love to be able to make the process easier for future applicants.
I’m also really into rowing, running, and science communication (all things I picked up while at University!)
Thanks for reading and I hope to hear from you soon! 🙂
My teaching style
For students preparing for an exam, I like to teach with heavy reference to the exam specification/syllabus (which is your most powerful tool when preparing for exams) but if the student grasps these concepts quickly I like to introduce extensions, perhaps relating to my own work or to things the student is particularly interested in. I find that understanding concepts slightly beyond the syllabus is a great way to build further interest in the subject and to gain maximum confidence in the examinable material.
My past experience
I tutored GCSE maths for several years during Sixth Form, and I tutored several students to A*/A grades in A-Level Physics and Chemistry during my first year of University. I have also organised dozens of mock Oxbridge interviews at schools around the country and provided one-on-one Oxbridge mentoring to three Year 12 students during my undergrad years.
My Proudest Achievements
I am especially proud of my Class I grade in my Bachelor’s degree, and also ranking among the top 100 students in the country for my GCSE grades. I’m also proud of all the amazing things that my previous tutees have gone on to do at University and otherwise 🙂
