About Me
Hi! I’m Lauren and I’m a second year Psychology in Education undergrad student! Having gone through the standard English state school system, I understand and relate to students struggling with maintaining a healthy school-life balance whilst remaining calm and confident regarding their results. Seeing how myself and my fellow students struggled during our GCSEs and A-Levels inspired and pushed me towards an Education oriented degree and career path (hopefully!).
The bulk of my GCSE Education happened throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, eventually receiving my GCSEs at the end of the 2021 academic year. Because of this, I like to think I have a unique experience regarding Education, giving me a wide range of perspectives and keeping me open-minded to the struggles students face. During my secondary education, I also had exam arrangements. As I am a SEN student myself, I am particularly sensitive to the difficulties SEN students face when moving through the school system and understand how SEN can change an individuals perspective of education for the negative. However, education is something I remain passionate about and I aim to make learning more accessible to those who feel averse to learning because of educational needs.
In my spare time, I regularly hike around national parks in Northern England, particularly the Peak District and North York Moors. I also compete in University athletics competitions, especially cross-country racing.
My teaching style
I like to get a good idea of how the students learn and their preferred learning styles, adapting my tutoring to their needs and preferences. Everybody learns differently, and I believe that it is important to work alongside students and parents to accommodate that!
My past experience
I have previously TA’d in Food Technology lessons – both practical and theory – for secondary school age students within schools in the Yorkshire area.
My Proudest Achievements
Moving through my GCSE and post-16 education in an ever-changing world where nobody was really certain what was next for the future of education whilst managing to maintain a strong balance between my educational and personal life is one of my proudest achievements and I feel blessed to have gone through such a unique and testing educational experience and come out of the other side with the results I desired.
