Jemine
About Me
Hi all!
My name is Jemine Barrow and I’m a Final Year Law Student at the University of Oxford, specifically reading at St Peter’s College. I’m originally from Nigeria, but I have lived and studied in England since 2015.
I got 11A*s and an A at GCSEs and A*AB (Economics, History and English Literature) in my A-Level exams.
I’m also currently a Future Trainee Solicitor. I have accepted a Training Contract from a Top US Law Firm, and I am set to start working with the firm following my graduation from Oxford next year.
The university admissions process can be very difficult, and I am glad that I was able to get through it with great results. I achieved a score of 30/42 in my LNAT, which was 7 marks above the national average, and I got 5/5 offers from the universities that I applied to. I believe that my success in this area will enable me to carefully guide and prepare current applicants towards successful outcomes in this challenging process.
My key strengths are that I am a very driven and focused person. Therefore, I can assure you that I will be highly determined in the course of working with students, and will work extremely hard to ensure that the goals of the students I work with are achieved.
Also, I regard myself as being very personable and having strong interpersonal skills. Resultantly, I am certain that I will be able to communicate effectively with students and put them on the right track to excel in their LNAT, and in Oxbridge interviews.
Additionally, I have strong time-management skills, which have been refined by me previously holding several positions of responsibility whilst balancing my very demanding Oxford degree. Accordingly, I will be able to prioritise tutoring students along with my academic commitments.
I look forward to working with you all soon!
My teaching style
I would regard myself as a very hands-on teacher. I closely monitor how my students are doing, and I work tirelessly to ensure that they excel.
The LNAT is a very interesting test in that it requires you to consistently think critically, as well as think in a manner that is peculiar to this test. Therefore, a key focus for me is ensuring that students are aware of the unique style of the questions, and are clear on how to overcome them.
Also, the LNAT is very time-pressured, and there are multiple ways in which one can ensure they stay ahead of time. As a result, I will be working with students to ensure that they adopt a method that allows them to go through the test effectively and efficiently.
Moreover, I adapt to the teaching style that best suits students, as different people have different needs and different styles that work for them.
Lastly, I think it’s important to start the tutoring process by gauging the skills of students and seeing what they are good at. From here, I can determine what they need help in, along with helping them improve and perfect their strong points.
My past experience
I have not engaged in any formal tutoring, but I have worked closely with friends and family to help them do well in their GCSEs and in their University applications.
My Proudest Achievements
One of my proudest achievements was being awarded an academic scholarship at school for achieving the highest GCSE grades amongst non-scholars.
Also, I was very proud that I was appointed the first African Head of School of my school, along with being appointed the Head Student of my boarding house.
Lastly, I’m very delighted to have been one of the eleven people offered a Training Contract at the US Law Firm that I am set to work in following my graduation next year.
