Cheyane
About Me
My name is Cheyane, but I often go by Chey! I have been tutoring for over 7 years now, giving me great experience with children of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds!
What makes me different is my desire to get to know you, as well as how you are doing in school! I enjoy building rapport with all that I tutor, sharing a laugh as well as passing on key knowledge that will help you ace your subjects!
I studied Anthropology, as it is all about people, and now work in HMPPS! I get to learn about how people figure things out, and the events that have brought them to where they are currently. This passion is evident in the way I work and also in how I will help progress during the sessions. I want the best for you in your learning as well as personal development, and I hope that I can also pass on my passion for learning!
My teaching style
Lessons will be student centred, and based on areas that students (and parents) would like to focus on.
I will take some time observing how best each student learns, and use this knowledge when preparing materials . Depending on the speed of the learner, the session may simply focus on explaining concepts/methods, with a few practice questions to aid/check understanding.
We will progress into independent questions/learning soon after and flip the narrative where the student teaches me their method and talks me through the questions.
If necessary, short homework tasks will also be given. I aim to use a variety of resources from PowerPoints and Whiteboard to Quizzes and YouTube Videos, to ensure that topics are well understood and we have fun along the way!
Progress will be assessed through mini (but fun!) quizzes and through observing their ability to explain concepts back to me. The most important thing is instilling confidence – whether the answer is wrong or right, I want my students to be confident to give things a go and be brave in their approach to their learning. I also want them to enjoy it! It should be fun to learn and hopefully, the breadth of resources used will aid this!
I currently work shift patterns, so will require some flexibility when scheduling lessons. I also ask that you let me know in advance what topics you’d like to go over ahead of the lesson.
My past experience
Yes! I have been tutoring now for over 7 years, both online and in person. I started of just tutoring Maths and English (including 11+) for children aged 4 to 16, and since then have broadened my skills and supported A-Level students and University Students.
