About Me

My name is Aabha and I am 19 years old, currently a medical student at the University of Sheffield. Studying Medicine is a thoroughly enjoyable experience for me because I love that I can learn so many fascinating things about the human body while still interacting with people.

I consider myself a kind, fun and organised person. My hobbies include swimming, singing and reading- I make sure to make time for these as they keep me grounded during academically busy times!

I want to be a tutor because I myself have been that quiet kid in the back of the classroom who was struggling with work but did not feel comfortable asking for help. Being an approachable, friendly face for students who feel the same way as I did would be a truly rewarding experience. Learning doesn’t have to be boring or difficult and I look forward to working collaboratively with students and parents in a way that allows them to gain the most from tutoring while still enjoying it!

My teaching style

I want to liaise with students and parents to find a learning approach that works for them. Practice makes perfect so there will be a lot of practice questions to highlight weak areas to make sure I can tailor my teaching to clear doubts. Each lesson will have a detailed plan and we will always review what we learnt from the previous lesson to ensure there is continuity. For me, the most important thing is building a rapport with my students and making sure they have the confidence to give things a try and ask for help when they need it. In the past, I have been a student who has struggled academically. This has taught me that patience and understanding go a long way in helping someone. I do expect hard work from anyone I teach, but I will match this to deliver an effective and engaging learning experience.

My past experience

I tutored my brother for the 11+ entrance exam during the first COVID lockdown and he passed with flying colours, scoring well above the threshold for his grammar school. I have also been a teacher on MyTutor, tutoring KS3 English. During my time in sixth form I was also a mentor for GCSE German pupils.

My Proudest Achievements

In December 2020, an elderly lady who lived locally was struggling to find volunteers for her regular charity garage sales. I got in touch with her and have since volunteered at 11 charity sales- both in the garage and town. I have sold jewellery, baked goods and board games and we raised over £800 for a local hospice at one such sale. This experience helped me develop the skill of communication and forming bonds with people- as an introvert this was not something that came naturally to me but I am so happy I persevered.
