About Me

Hi there, my name is Freya! I am a third year student at the University of Aberdeen. For my first two years of university I studied Medicine, before deciding to pursue my research interests instead and switch degree programme. I remain passionate medicine and about giving young people looking to enter the degree the help which is tailored to them and the advice I wish someone had given me!

Back in 2019 when I was in my final year of high school I was applying for medicine at university. I remember feeling so intimidated by the enormous task ahead of me. With a lot advice, organisation and practice, I achieved a score of 3090 in my UCAT, which put me in the top 1% of people who took the test that year. I interviewed at all four universities I applied for and I got offers for three, and chose to attend the medicine course at the University of Aberdeen.

I hope that you will choose me to be your tutor because I will share with you the advice I wish someone had told me when I was applying – so that you can learn from my mistakes and not make them yourself! I will offer guidance and advice which is tailored to your needs to help you complete your application to the best of your abilities. And I will, of course answer any questions you have about the process of applying.

I wish you the best of luck for your application!

My teaching style

My tutoring style is very collaborative. I aim work to work as a team with you to allow you to do the best that you can in your application. This will include discussing how you feel about different areas of the application and coming up with a plan together that is tailored to the areas you wish to improve on. I firmly believe that being well informed on the application process and having a solid plan of action is essential to a successful application. I also think it is incredibly important that any tutoring is completely focused on the goals you want to achieve!

My past experience

I have a range of subject teaching and medicine application tutoring experience from the past few years.

For three consecutive years I volunteered as a mock interviewer for an outreach society at my university. For two years I also ran UCAT online courses for people from deprived or rural areas in the North of Scotland.

Beyond medicine, I have taught and done talks for secondary school pupils. When I myself was in sixth year, I tutored younger students one-to-one to help improve their reading confidence. I also supported maths classes for secondary school students where I talked through problems they had and helped them come up with ways to solve them. I had the opportunity a few years ago to also run some classes for primary school students which was great fun!

More recently, I have given talks to young people from rural and deprived areas to encourage them to enter university.

My Proudest Achievements

My proudest achievements include gaining three offers to study medicine at university, scoring in the top 1% of people taking the medicine entrance UCAT exam in 2019, getting three A1s in Advanced Higher Maths, Chemistry, and Biology, getting five As in my Highers, and winning my school’s Dux award!
