About Me
Despite being very academic at school, I would say it is sport that shapes me the most. I play a lot of cricket as well as run and swim competitively. From the importance of discipline and consistency to being coachable. Even my curiosity comes from a sporting instinct to always be on the look out for ways to learn and improve.
I’m also a very passionate reader, with Murakami and Bryce Courtenay being two of may favourite authors. I find books a great way to wind down as well as explore other cultures and perspectives. They help provide great conversation material and keep me from scrolling! I’m also a big fan of art of all kinds, particularly ceramics. I’m partial to an exhibition and I wish I had the time to create more of my own art .
In terms of my future as a doctor, I haven’t committed to a particular speciality. However, I am really passionate about population health and improving lifestyle factors such as diet and exercise for those in more deprived areas.
I don’t have any pets but there are 4 cats next door and I am unashamedly a cat person. Fun fact: I’ve lived in the same house for my whole life!
My teaching style
As a student, I’ve found the best teachers ask lots of questions so I have always tried to keep my own tutor sessions very conversational. I never want to feel like my students are being lectured and so I’m always conscious of not speaking for too long without clarifying their understanding or pushing their reasoning. I also try to recognise the pace at which different students learn and adjust lessons accordingly.
My past experience
Yes, I began about two and a half years ago. I have done both in person and online tutoring. I also have experience tutoring students with SEND, having worked with a boy who has autism for around 18 months.
My Proudest Achievements
Running a 17:30 minute 5k is definitely one. This was the culmination of a lot of training and it was one of the best feelings to smash a goal having been chasing it for months. At school, being made Vice Captain (deputy head) was a very proud moment as I have always made a big effort to contribute and it was great to see that effort recognised
