About Me
My name is Hannah Weatherstone and I’m a 22 year old studying dentistry at Newcastle University – currently in my 4th year. Having successfully made it onto my dream course after only going through the application process once, I would love to offer some guidance to any younger aspiring dentists in the hope that they too can be one step closer to achieving their goals. As a fourth-year dental student, I am confident in my ability to support aspiring students, ensuring they embark on their dental education journey with the best possible start.
For A-levels I took chemistry, biology and maths, very common choices for dental/medical applicants, and achieved AAA*! For me, I feel that my particular strengths were in both my personal statement and interview technique as I was really able to show my passion for the subject and would love to help others get their passion across too! I received 3 interview offers out of the 4 universities I applied to and went on to receive offers following all of my interviews – from Bristol, Birmingham and Newcastle Universities.
Although it’s not the easiest course to access, it’s so worth it and only takes drive and commitment – help from others along the way never goes a miss either!
My teaching style
Personally, I like to keep my teaching style quite informal as I find it’s easier to relate to students through creating a more casual environment. As a third-year dental student, I bring fresh insights and a deep understanding of the challenges faced in early dental application and education. I create an interactive atmosphere and encourage questions to ensure students gain maximum benefit from our sessions. Join me in making the journey into dentistry both enjoyable and seamless.
My past experience
During my academic journey, I found joy in sharing knowledge and supporting others in their educational pursuits. While completing my GCSEs, I tutored three primary school children in mathematics, honing my ability to simplify concepts and adapt to different learning styles. As I progressed, I took on the role of guiding a student through UCAT preparation, offering strategies and insights to navigate this critical exam successfully. Additionally, I provided interview preparation guidance to another student, focusing on communication skills and confidence building. These experiences have not only solidified my passion for teaching but also equipped me with a diverse set of skills to cater to the unique needs of students, ensuring a holistic and effective tutoring approach.
My Proudest Achievements
Although academically my biggest achievements would be my A*AA at A-level and receiving two 7s, five 8s and three 9s at GCSE, I’m also very proud of things I have achieved in my extracurricular activities. These include: achieving distinctions for grade 8 ballet, modern and tap dancing; receiving distinctions for both my grade 8 voice and grade 6 flute exams; and receiving 3 offers to study dentistry. I’m also a very keen scuba diver so am very proud to have achieved my Advanced Open Water Diver when I was just 15, then advancing to achieve my Rescue Diver at 18.
Within the dentistry degree at Newcastle University, I have obtained passing grades for all exams across first year, second year and third year. Additionally, I have obtained Ms (Merits/highest achievable grade) for numerous presentations and essays across first, second and third years.
