Shiv
About Me
Hi, my name is Shiv and I’ve just finished my first year studying Law at Cambridge as an undergraduate. I’ve been through all the challenges of academic preparation myself – from securing 9 Grade 9s and 1 Grade 8 at GCSE, to A*AAA at A-Levels and navigating the LNAT admissions test and the Cambridge Law interviews. I’ve since run LNAT workshops at my former and this year successfully supported a student in the year below me through the Cambridge application process. Beyond that I’ve tutored students across a range of GCSE subjects as well as A-Level Economics and Philosophy.
Away from only academics I have a range of other interests. I have a strong background in drama and musical theatre, having done several professional productions, and I also have dedicated much time in my life to athletics and football about which I am particularly passionate. Others interests in this list include debating and chess – with this diverse background of interests and the different things I’ve dedicated time to in my life, I’ve gained a well-balanced approach to academics and tutoring.
More generally, with my experience (and having two younger siblings!), I have genuinely come to love one-on-one teaching and committing myself to help students achieve their full potential!
My teaching style
Though my teaching style varies between subjects, it primarily involves making my students really break down their thought processes and logic and always inviting them to understand why they have come to their answer (whether it is right or wrong) to truly further their understanding and critical thinking. More generally, I would describe my style as patient and encouraging whilst also being intellectually demanding.
My past experience
As mentioned above, I have formally tutored multiple students taking their GCSEs (4 students, each for more than one subject including Maths, All Three Sciences, French, Latin, English Literature and Drama) as well as one student for A-Level Economics and one for A-Level Philosophy.
My Proudest Achievements
Academically, my proudest achievements are: 9 Grade 9s at GCSE (whilst scoring full marks in the French Oral and Shakespeare Section of English Literature), Being shortlisted in an AI Treaty Drafting Competition (2023) in preparation for university admissions, ranking top of my Cambridge College for the LNAT essay, getting an offer to study Law at Cambridge, and this year I topped my college rankings for the end of year exams.
Beyond academics, I have performed in multiple professional drama productions including a play at the Edinburgh Fringe and starring in an independent short film (which was nominated for awards at a short film festival) and playing football at semi-professional level for two years.
