Angela
About Me
My name is Angela and I am an MBPhD student at UCL in Lodnon. What this means is that I have completed four years of undergraduate Medicine, including an intercalated BSc, and I am now taking three years out of clinical training to pursue a PhD, before returning to medical school to complete the clinical part of my studies. I am in the 3rd and final year of my PhD, studying breast cancer.
Originally Greek, I finished school in Germany before coming to London for medical school. Hence I speak Greek and German in addition to English. I have been lucky to experience multiple education systems and meet people from all over the world throughout. I love learning and teaching and tutoring is an opportunity to share my passion for it.
Although much of my time is spent in the lab, outside of it I love cycling – I have just dipped my toe into racing ! I love cooking and baking too, and can spend hours flipping through recipes in cookbooks and then putting them to the test for my loved ones.
My teaching style
I tailor my teaching style to the student’s needs. I appreciate different students comprehend content at different paces and have different weaknesses and strengths. I try to be methodical when explaining things and working solutions out step-by-step. I find exam-style questions and past papers very useful preparation for exams, but like to focus on actually understanding the content and not just working through them mechanically/memorising just for the sake of passing.
My past experience
I have tutored students in Greek for their GCSE exams and Biology in the past. I have also tutored students from KS3 to Year 12 as part of The Brilliant Club, with a focus on Biology. I also used to tutor Anatomy to University students in Healthcare Science courses (e.g. Medicine, Paramedic Science, Midwifery, Phsyiotherapy) – this involved practical hands-on sessions in the dissecting room along with explanations of relevant physiology.
My Proudest Achievements
My proudest achievement is working through this current PhD. Not only a very competitive programme to get into, the switch from clinical medicine to laboratory experimentation with very limited previous experience has been a challenge. However, I have persevered, and nearing the end of it, it has been a massive learning experience for me, that has inspired me to further pursue and combine medical research and clinical practice.
