Isabel
About Me
My name is Isabel, and I am a recent graduated PPE student hailing from Malaysia. I’m looking forward to tutoring you! Our lessons will be very engaging, dynamic and personalised to your own teaching styles. With my solid academic background of achieving the top in the year awards in both economics and history during A-levels, I am confident in offering tailored tutoring services to help students excel. I possess a strong grasp of key concepts and exam board requirements, particularly in GCSE geography, economics, and history, as well as A-level economics and history. Furthermore, I am well-equipped to assist aspiring students in their journey towards Oxford’s highly competitive PPE course. As an experienced tutor, I am well-versed in enhancing performance on the Thinking Skills Assessment (TSA) and preparing students for rigorous admission interviews. Through my involvement in hosting summer schools in Malaysia, I have organised mock tutorial sessions, providing valuable insights and guidance to applicants.
My teaching style
My teaching style is to have an exam-focused approach and continuous feedback and support. Firstly, I recognise that each student has different strengths, weaknesses and learning styles so I make sure to tailor my teaching methods to meet individual needs, identify specific areas of improvement and create personalised lesson plans. I mainly work to help hone your exam technique and make sure you know small tricks that can help you work more time efficiently in the exam. I like to make sure that each student has a comprehensive understanding of the syllabus and knows exactly what the examiner is looking for. Lastly, I believe in continuous feedback and support by providing constructive criticism to create more effective revision strategies to set students up for a more long-term love of learning.
My past experience
I have been tutoring for 3 years; mainly in history with one of my students getting an A in history and securing an interview offer with Oxford for law. Apart from this, I regularly assist mock tutorial sessions with underprivileged students applying to Oxford and set up mock interview workshops with applicants from Malaysia. As the prior president to the Oxford University Malaysia Club, I hosted a summer school with 100+ attendees to assist their Oxford applications and set up mock tutorials in a variety of subjects.
My Proudest Achievements
One of my proudest achievements was leading a team in launching the Autumn Mentorship Programme with Oxford Women in Business, a transformative initiative that made a significant impact on the lives of aspiring individuals. In this role, I successfully recruited and matched 146 mentees with high-achieving mentors from diverse sectors, including finance, the World Bank, consultancy, nonprofits, and fashion.
Mentees were able to tap into the wealth of knowledge and experience that their mentors brought to the table. They received guidance on various aspects, such as career development, industry insights, networking opportunities, and personal growth. Mentees achieved significant milestones in their professional journeys, secured internships, obtained valuable industry connections, and gained clarity on their career paths. Witnessing these achievements and the positive impact on the mentees’ lives solidified the significance and value of the mentorship programme and also how important it is to have a strong tutor to guide you in life. Being part of this transformative experience has not only enriched the lives of the participants but has also inspired me to continue making a difference in the lives of others through mentorship and leadership initiatives.
