About Me

Hello! My name is Ebed and I am a fourth-year Engineering Science Masters student at the University of Oxford, specialising in Semiconductor and Hardware Engineering. I believe everyone is capable of academic success, provided they have good guidance, an appreciation of what they are studying and maintain consistent effort. Equipped with a strong academic background and proven tutoring experience, I look forward to helping students achieve their academic goals.

To deliver the highest level of tutoring, a proven academic track record is necessary. Starting with my most recent 3rd-year exams, I obtained the 5th highest result in my Electronic Devices module (81%) and first-class results in my Information Engineering module and my Machine Learning Computation Project. With respect to my A-levels, I obtained the 3rd best overall result in my cohort (2nd best in Physics and Further Maths) and was the only student to have received an offer to study at the University of Oxford. For my AS levels, I took English Literature and achieved the best results, with my AS English Literature essay used by the AQA exam board as an exemplary high grading essay in a marking conference. Lastly, during my time as a GCSE student, I achieved a grade 9 in all core STEM subjects and English Literature and an A* Distinction in my Further Maths GCSE.

Last but not least, I pride myself in being an honest, sincere and enthusiastic individual, going above and beyond to share my knowledge, and ensuring there is never a dull moment when tutoring.

My teaching style

“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.” – William Arthur Ward

In light of this quote, I follow a 3-step approach to tutoring. This starts with building a strong foundation of the subject material through active learning. This process involves explaining the concepts, encouraging questions from the student, and prompting the student with questions they may not be comfortable asking. Content is then thoroughly understood, leaving no gaps in understanding and student confidence is built.

The second key part of the tutoring process requires mapping the concepts learnt to their application in different fields of work. Through instances of personal engineering projects I have completed, I also demonstrate how these concepts were utilised to achieve the desired outcome. The student then obtains an appreciation of the content by understanding the significance of what they are learning. This in turn motivates the best students and prepares them for higher education where these concepts are applied to real-world scenarios.

Lastly, with material understanding established, the student is given plenty of exam questions to apply their knowledge. Students will be encouraged to complete these tests independently, and each question the student struggled with will be reviewed. Based on these practice papers, a priority list of the topics is formed, difficult topics are recapped, and more questions are completed in order of priority. Online practice exam invigilation is also offered at no extra cost, ensuring students complete the practice paper under exam conditions.

Throughout this three-point tutoring process, emphasis is placed on creating a welcoming environment, encouraging student engagement, and fostering student independence.

My past experience

During my time as an A-level student, I successfully tutored A-level Maths to two students, raising their grades from an E in their mocks to an A in their final exam and the other from an E to a B. This resulted in the former student securing a place at the London School of Economics. I am also currently tutoring Maths GCSE to a student and their performance has improved from averaging low 50s/80 to 70s/80 in the space of two weeks.

My Proudest Achievements

My proudest achievement is attaining the 5th highest result in my Electronic Devices module. This accomplishment required immense effort, persistence, and humility. Through this experience, I gained a deeper understanding of what it takes to excel at the University of Oxford and in challenging endeavors. I firmly believe that with support from others, consistent practice, and determination, any obstacle—whether academic or physical—can be overcome.
