About Me

Hi! My name is Akshat and I am a first-year medical student at UCL (University College London). Having gone through the medicine application process a year ago, A-Levels less than a year ago, and GCSEs a little under three years ago, I can appreciate how difficult this time can be and that is where I come in. I joined Medic Mind to use my experiences to help others achieve their dream results, and I will do this by passing on tips and techniques that will give you the best chance of success. I know how intimidating this period of life can be, with so many exams on the horizon, but I believe that anything is achievable with the right mindset and passion.

Aside from my studies, I am an avid cricket fan and player, and I play for both my local club and university. I also enjoy reading in my free time. Please do not hesitate to contact me regarding lessons!

My teaching style

My teaching style involves tutoring that is centred around the individual. I first aim to understand what level the tutee is at, in terms of knowledge and understanding of basic concepts, and any concerns the student may have. I then find out what the student aims to achieve, consolidate their knowledge and ensure that the student has a complete appreciation of both the theory and any techniques that they will use in this subject.
The next stage of my teaching revolves around past paper questions and actually testing this knowledge. I have found that making mistakes can be one of the best ways to learn something, so letting tutees make mistakes and then learn and build on them in an empathetic way is something I use when tutoring, which I have found works extremely well.

My past experience

I was chosen by the Chemistry department at my school to tutor children that were struggling with certain concepts just before their mocks. I helped one student go from being predicted a grade 6 to attaining a grade 9 in his mock exam. I also tutored a year 10 maths student for 9 weeks, helping him understand difficult topics such as circle theorems. Moreover, I have written UCAT practice questions for a company that helps with UCAT revision. In addition, I gave several talks to both medicine applicants in my year and the year on topics including the general application process and the UCAT.

My Proudest Achievements

One of my proudest achievements would be attaining my A-level results, which meant that I secured my place at my dream university (UCL) to study medicine. Another achievement of mine would be winning an iPad in my school’s extended project competition, with my project on the future of bioprinting being one of the top ones in the competition.
