About Me

I am a first-year medical student at University College London (MBBS) with a strong academic background and a genuine passion for teaching and mentoring students. Alongside my studies, I tutor students from KS1 and KS3 through to GCSE and A-level across Biology, Chemistry, Maths, Spanish, and admissions-related preparation. Beyond academics, I have always been actively involved in drama, acting, and sport, which has played a major role in shaping how I teach. Performing on stage taught me confidence, clarity of communication, and how to engage an audience, while sport instilled discipline, resilience, and the importance of consistent practice.

I have completed over 100 hours of tutoring, working with students of varying abilities and learning styles, including SEN students. These experiences have reinforced my belief that no two students learn in the same way, and that effective teaching must be flexible and empathetic. I take time to understand each student’s strengths, challenges, and motivations before tailoring lessons to suit them.

Having recently completed my own A-levels and transitioned into medical school, I understand the academic pressure students face and the frustration of knowing content but underperforming in exams. I aim to bridge that gap by helping students build confidence, develop strong exam technique, and, most importantly, begin to enjoy what they are learning. I firmly believe that students perform best when they feel supported, understood, and genuinely enjoy their studies.

My teaching style

My teaching style is structured, personalised, and strongly student-centred. I believe that effective learning begins with understanding how a student thinks and processes information, rather than applying a rigid, one-size-fits-all approach. When starting with a new student, I take time to identify their strengths, areas of difficulty, confidence levels, and preferred learning methods, and tailor lessons accordingly.

Working closely with SEN students has significantly shaped my approach to teaching. It has highlighted the importance of clear structure, visual learning methods, and breaking complex concepts into manageable steps. I regularly use diagrams, colour-coding, flowcharts, worked examples, and real-life analogies to support understanding and retention. Lessons are paced carefully, with frequent check-ins to ensure concepts are fully understood before moving on.

I prioritise building strong foundational understanding before progressing to application, exam technique, and performance under time pressure. Once students are confident in the content, I focus on helping them express their knowledge clearly and accurately in exams, avoid common pitfalls, and develop independence in their learning. My aim is to create a supportive, engaging environment where students feel confident asking questions, making mistakes, and ultimately developing both academic skill and self-belief.

My past experience

Yes. I have completed over 100 hours of tutoring across KS1, KS3, GCSE, and A-level, supporting students in Biology, Chemistry, Maths, Spanish, and admissions-related preparation. I have worked with students of a wide range of abilities, including those needing confidence-building and foundational support, high-achieving students aiming for top grades, and SEN students requiring more tailored approaches. This breadth of experience has allowed me to adapt my teaching style to suit individual needs effectively.

In addition to paid tutoring, I have been involved in volunteering roles focused on mentoring and supporting younger students. Through volunteering, I have worked with students who required additional academic or pastoral support, further strengthening my ability to explain concepts clearly, build rapport, and encourage confidence in learning. These experiences have reinforced the importance of patience, empathy, and adaptability in teaching.

My experience includes both short-term exam preparation and longer-term academic support. I regularly plan personalised lessons, use visual and step-by-step methods, and provide constructive feedback to help students not only improve academically but also develop effective study habits and independence. Seeing students grow in confidence and consistency over time is what I find most rewarding about teaching.

My Proudest Achievements

My proudest achievements include balancing competitive sport and drama alongside a demanding academic workload while successfully gaining entry into a top medical school. I was awarded a Governor’s Award for Academic Excellence in recognition of sustained high academic performance, and I was selected as Senior Prefect, reflecting my leadership and commitment to my school community. I was also a finalist for a charity award, and I founded a volunteering teaching scheme working with local primary schools, providing academic support and mentoring to younger students.
