About Me

Welcome to my page! My name is Sonali, and I am a second year medical student at the University of Cambridge.

Having understood from first-hand experience how challenging sixth form – more specifically, the preparation for life beyond it – can be, I’m passionate about helping students set out clear academic goals and break them down into achievable methodologies that will maximise both their potential and success in upcoming exams and applications.

In particular, I specialise in A-Level Biology tutoring and all aspects of the Medicine application journey. During this time, I achieved four A*s at A-Level (Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Physics), a UCAT score in the top 1% (3290 B1) and four Medicine offers from Cambridge, Imperial College London, Edinburgh and King’s College London. Through my tutoring, I can provide support in A-Level content explanations and exam preparation, UCAT strategies, UCAS personal statement guidance and interview preparation (including Oxbridge), sharing my knowledge and skills to help students excel in these areas.

Our sessions will focus on enhancing problem-solving skills and learning content strategically to maximise both memorisation and comprehension of the information. These skills form the core of what Medicine is, and is consequently what is assessed throughout the application process, whether it be through academic performance, admission tests, or interviews. However, equally important (yet often overlooked) is mindset – this is something that forms the absolute foundation for setting out all discussed, and honing the correct frame of mind to approach this challenging period is something that I help to address.

Though the transition from school life to something thrilling yet unknown is undoubtedly a confusing and overwhelming experience, my shared and recent experience of the journey allows me to provide specific and tailored guidance to build the confidence, enthusiasm and aptitude that will prove indispensable for the exciting years to come. Thank you for reading my page, and please feel free to contact me with any questions!

My teaching style

My tutoring strategy begins with first understanding, then maximising *your* individual learning styles and the best methods of memorisation that work for you – whether that is with visual representations with a whiteboard, building factual ‘trains of thought’ for retention, or something completely different! I adapt and tailor the scope of the sessions to your needs, from explaining the fundamentals of biological mechanisms to broader applications of the knowledge with exam technique.

My support for the Medicine and Oxbridge application follows a similar personalised approach. I will share my methods, strategies and insights, and then tailor them to your own unique experience of the process to ensure they are as effective as possible. I can provide mock interviews, personal statement reviews, discussions on medical news, and more, depending on what you need.

No matter the area of support, I strive to ensure that the sessions are engaging and centred around the student, and throughout the session I encourage any questions and feedback (which themselves can be a very useful learning tool!). I also place strong emphasis on building the right mindset to foster confidence and focus, by helping students to explore any concerns they may have and provide advice for maintaining a positive, resilient approach to their work.

My Proudest Achievements

Despite being a packed year, I would say my achievements within Year 13 have been my proudest – not only regarding applications and exams, but with other responsibilities such as being Head Girl of my school and ending my term as the Regional Cadet of the Year for St John Ambulance.
