About Me
I am an experienced Tutor, Mentor and education professional with a background spanning teaching, assessment, youth development and business leadership. I have worked across formal education, community provision and remote learning environments, supporting learners of different ages, abilities and personal circumstances to achieve their goals.
My career began in the Armed Forces, where I developed resilience, discipline and strong leadership skills. I later moved into education, working as a Computing and Functional Skills tutor and supporting learners in both classroom and one-to-one settings. I have experience marking GCSE and A-Level coursework, providing structured feedback aligned to assessment criteria, and helping students build confidence in their academic ability.
Alongside tutoring, I co-run a community dance and performing arts organisation where I lead on programme development, mentoring young people and supporting volunteers. This role has strengthened my communication, organisation and problem-solving skills, as well as my ability to motivate others and create positive learning environments.
I am passionate about helping learners overcome barriers, develop independence and reach their potential. I bring a calm, supportive and professional approach to mentoring, with a strong focus on consistency, encouragement and clear progression.
My teaching style
My teaching style is fair, structured and supportive. I set clear expectations and maintain consistency, while creating a positive environment where learners feel safe to contribute. I encourage learners to take ownership of their learning by leading discussions, attempting solutions independently and reflecting on their progress. This approach helps build confidence, resilience and self-authoritative learning skills, preparing them to work more independently over time.
My past experience
Yes, I have several years of experience in teaching and tutoring across both formal education and community settings. I have worked as a Computing and Functional Skills tutor, supporting learners in classroom, small group and one-to-one environments. I have also provided remote tutoring and academic support, including marking GCSE and A-Level coursework and giving structured feedback aligned to assessment criteria.
Alongside this, I co-run a community performing arts organisation where mentoring and learner development are central to my role. I support young people and volunteers to build confidence, develop skills and achieve personal goals. My experience includes working with learners of mixed ability levels, including those with additional learning needs, and adapting my approach to suit individual learning styles.
My Proudest Achievements
One of my proudest achievements is supporting learners to gain confidence and succeed academically, particularly those who initially doubted their ability. Seeing students progress, pass qualifications and develop independence is extremely rewarding.
Professionally, I am also proud of co-building a community performing arts organisation that now supports large numbers of young people through structured programmes, mentoring opportunities and accessible activities. This has involved leadership, programme development and creating positive pathways for learners and volunteers.
Personally, transitioning from a military background into education and mentoring is something I value greatly, as it reflects my commitment to helping others grow and achieve their potential.
