About Me
Hi! I’m Shivam – a current MPhil student in Finance & Economics at the University of Cambridge, and a First-Class Economics graduate from UCL.
I specialise in Maths, Economics, and Statistics for top-tier university preparation, particularly for students aiming for Cambridge, Oxford, LSE, and UCL. Alongside my academic work, I’ve worked at JPMorgan, where I applied mathematical and statistical thinking daily in high-stakes, real-world decisions – so I don’t just teach formulas, I teach how to think.
My lessons are clear, structured, and confidence-building. I break down difficult ideas until they click, then train students to apply them under exam and interview pressure. Whether it’s problem-solving, admissions interviews, or developing the mindset Cambridge looks for, I adapt every session to the student in front of me.
If you’re looking for a tutor who is academically rigorous, approachable, and genuinely invested in student outcomes, I’d love to help.
My teaching style
My teaching style is intuitive, structured, and exam-focused.
I begin by building clear intuition, then develop the formal mathematics and techniques required for top-level exams and interviews. I emphasise problem-solving, logical reasoning, and clarity of explanation, helping students gain both confidence and precision. Lessons are always tailored to the individual, with a strong focus on applying ideas under time pressure – exactly what competitive universities look for.
My Proudest Achievements
One of my proudest academic achievements was graduating with a First-Class degree in Economics from UCL, with my dissertation ranked in the top 1% of the cohort. The dissertation also won Best Undergraduate Research Project, recognising both the originality of the question and the strength of the quantitative analysis.
Earlier in my academic journey, I was awarded Student of the Year in high school – an experience that shaped my long-term approach to learning, discipline, and academic curiosity.
Together, these milestones reflect a consistent trajectory: sustained academic excellence, a strong research mindset, and a genuine commitment to understanding ideas deeply rather than learning them superficially.
