About Me

My name is Zach,

I am an experienced private tutor with over 100 hours of experience tutoring in groups and individuals.

I tutor in History, English, and English literature in pre GCSE, GCSE, and A level across a range of exam boards and school entry exams. I particularly specialise in Oxford History Entrance Exams, including the HAT, interview preparation, and critical thinking classes both one on one and in groups.

I am a professional singing tutor, taught in the Estill method of singing. To coach students, I draw on my training. I hold a Masters Degree from the Royal Academy of Music, and was both a graduate of Oxford University (Keble College), and a Choral Scholar at University College, Oxford.

For those student’s looking to increase their business knowledge, I offer crash courses in sustainability in business. I was head of Sustainability departments in Latin America and Canada for UPS, a FTSE 100 Company. In this role I designed syllabuses on Sustainability for multiple European Small Business (SME’s), and over 3000 UPS employees globally. I have positioned the UPS’s sustainability policy at major international events, including the COP26 United National Climate Change Negotiations, Chatham House, Cambridge University, and the House of Lords. I have been interviewed by BBC journalists in this role. I hold a certificate on Business Sustainability from the University of Cambridge, focusing on teaching sustainability.

My teaching style

I always foster a welcoming and proactive environment with my students, setting clear manageable targets to help them achieve their goals. It is my ethos that students learn best when inspired, which is a key part of my teaching style.

Many of my students come to be often disillusioned with a subject. I always focus on finding a ‘way in’. Every subject can be interesting and engaging for everyone, we just have to find what clicks. This is an ethos I apply particularly in my interview preparation for Oxbridge history aptitude tests (HAT), with lessons focusing on on-the-spot thinking, intellectual engagement, and creativity under pressure.

My past experience

English Literature and Language (Up to A Level):
• Provided a weekly tutoring service through Hilltop Academy (Oxford) for children (8-18) with English as their second language, to supplement term learning.
• Adept at working with children at both gifted and assisted class levels.
• Developed lesson plans spanning the various works of English literature, that align with term curriculums, with familiarity with GCSE AQA Shakespeare texts, 19th Century Novels, Modern Drama, and Prose.
• Adept at working with past papers and mark schemes to supplement tutoring and schoolwork, tailoring content to match the school year and exam board.

My Proudest Achievements

I spearheaded UPS’s engagement at the UN Climate change negotiations, meeting with world officials to push for a zero carbon future. As part of this, I developed courses and lessons for our employees to take back to their teams, which taught them sustainability in business strategy.
