My name is Silas and I am a newly qualified Resident Doctor following the completion of my Medical Degree at the University of Sheffield. I graduated with honours and received the Mark Gregory Baker as the top student in my year.

Prior to studying Medicine, I gained a First Class Degree in Political Science and International Relations at the University of Birmingham; my degree allowed me to apply to Undergraduate Medicine as a graduate. I can offer a unique perspective for students looking for alternate routes into Medicine and on the importance placed on varied interests by Medical Schools across the country.

As a Sheffield Medical student, I am the President of the Sheffield Emergency Medicine Society and am a member of medical societies such as Sheffield Friends of MSF and Wilderness Medicine. I am also a Community First Responder which involves responding to emergencies in the area with lifesaving equipment before the ambulance arrives. My specific areas of interest within Medicine are: Emergency Medicine, Wilderness Medicine, Pre-Hospital Medicine, Humanitarian Medicine, and Disaster Medicine.

In terms of the city of Sheffield, I was born and raised here therefore I feel that I can answer any questions that students have about the city, the lifestyle, and the surrounding area which I know is a point of emphasis from Sheffield during the interview process.

Overall, I am a patient and understanding tutor who can offer you my personal experience of the application process and as a current medical student and I feel that I can help you achieve your potential.

In terms of German, I have a Goethe Institut B2 Certificate and have been doing German for 7 years including a 1 month Medical Placement at a German hospital

Syed was great to work with, he was very knowledgeable and explained content thoroughly and clearly. He provided great foundational knowledge, however a lot of the resources used weren’t reflective of the content that appeared in the actual exam.

I appreciated the fact that the tutor set forth the expectations that are to be met in a medical interview. Especially, on the part where he mentioned that I have to be diplomatic. That comment made me realise the flaw in my perception and answers previously. Also, I learnt that I have to show some empathy regarding any scenarios being presented to me and this helped for my interview specifically as it was heavily scenario based. Lastly, the tutor sent me a lot of quality articles which pointed out the intricacies in medical equality & equity. This helped me loads in putting forth my personal ambition in wanting to med in a factual and appealing manner to the interviewer. Though I booked only 2 hours with this tutor, I felt he really made it worth my time by giving concise coaching on the key points that could help me ace the interview given the short amount of time I had to prepare under.
