Modern Foreign Languages Tutors : 1-1 Modern Foreign Languages Preparation

I am currently a third year studying Japanese at the University of Oxford. I have just returned from my year abroad in Kobe where I spent a year taking language classes and lectures in Kobe University’s Faculty of Letters.

While on my year abroad I wrote a thesis titled Freedom in Press and Defamation in Japan: A Case-Study on the Former Unification Church”. I presented that thesis at the end of my course to the University Board and the Faculty of Letters. Prior to this I separately presented within the faculty on “Reclaimed Land in Kobe: The history and impact of man-made islands in a port city”.

I am interested in Japanese current affairs and literature. In my final two years at Oxford I will be studying a variety of subjects including: Classical Japanese Literature, Classical Japanese, and Modern History.

Outside of university I enjoy Karate, which I have been doing for 16 years.

I am a 4th year university student currently studying in Bristol. I am studying Politics and French with the hope to work in the Civil Service or for a NGO. I have just finished my year abroad in Lyon, France where I studied at Université Jean Moulin III for one semester and then worked as an English teaching assistant for the second semester. My year in France not only drastically improved my level of French, but I equally gained valuable skills in the teaching field.
In my spare time I enjoy going on runs and walks to take time out of the busy student life.
Overall, I know how much hard work it takes to attain the grades one dreams of and I would love to help students be successful.

I’m Nick, an experienced educator and Head of Modern Languages, specialising in German tuition from GCSE to Degree level. I have a proven track record of helping students secure places at their desired universities, including colleges at Oxford.

I provide systematic preparation for the MLAT tests and offer interview coaching where needed. My teaching philosophy prioritizes deep understanding over rote learning, ensuring my students feel confident, well-prepared, and equipped for success.

I have a deep interest in the works of Ernst Jünger and Max Frisch, and gladly discuss German post-war (WWI & WWII) literature with my students. I have an affinity to works of German poetry and am very taken by the emotionalism that originated from the ‘Sturm und Drang’ movement of the late 18th Century.

In 2014, Rita Pierson’s TED Talk, “Every Kid Needs a Champion,” had a profound impact on me. Her insights resonated deeply with my educational values and reinforced the importance of fostering strong, meaningful relationships and ensuring all students have access to an enriching curriculum and an opportunity to succeed. This belief is personal to me. Removing anxieties and barriers to learning has become my core mission—whether supporting students or collaborating with colleagues. Celebrating young people’s individual achievements was the driving force behind my decision to become a teacher and subsequently a specialist tutor.

Hello! My name is Isaac and I’m a postgraduate student in Film and Screen Studies at the University of Cambridge. I previously studied at Cambridge for a BA in English, graduating with first-class honours in the summer of 2024.

Growing up, my mum was a teacher (albeit in Chemistry, so it’s safe to say that I’ve gone down a slightly different path!) and I was lucky enough to have so many brilliant teachers myself throughout my school years — so I know, from first-hand experience, how important informed guidance and positive encouragement can be in helping students to achieve their best. Having undertaken extra tutoring for my Maths GCSE, I also know that sometimes getting all of that in school isn’t quite enough — a little bit of extra help can go a long way!

Outside of academia, I enjoy drama, music, poetry, film, and taking long walks with my dog.
