About Me

Hi there! My name is Grace and I have just finished a French Literature MSt at Keble College, Oxford, for which I received a Distinction. I also completed
a History and French BA for my undergraduate at Somerville College, Oxford and got a First Class. I’ve been tutoring for several years now so I have lots of experience, and I really enjoy being able to help students wherever I can. I’ve always put my academic studies first, and I know how important it is to do your best in exams; I find it extremely rewarding when I can help students to achieve this. Having got all A*s in GCSE and A-Level, and successfully passed through Oxford’s rigorous admissions process, I know first-hand what is required to do well at all of these stages. I also really enjoy teaching students and hope that my enthusiasm will make their sessions enjoyable – I’ve always seen myself becoming a teacher, and my career plan is to become a university lecturer!

I currently work in a school environment, so I’m DBS checked and safeguarding trained.

My teaching style

I try and make my tutoring sessions as relaxed and lighthearted as possible, as I believe that this kind of environment is most conducive to helping students to build up confidence in their own academic ability. I also encourage my tutees to be proactive and independent in their studies, focussing on doing lots of practice questions and having discussions about the topics at hand, rather than lecturing them about large quantities of information. I want my tutees to feel as comfortable as possible, ask me any questions and hopefully get some enjoyment out of studying the subject!!

My past experience

I’ve been tutoring for the past several years. During the Covid-19 pandemic I volunteered for a student-run tutoring organisation at Oxford, tutoring A-Level French and practice for the Oxford HAT and MLAT. I’ve also been tutoring French A-Level privately for the past three years, as well as English to international students. I have also mentored for UniReach and the Oxbridge Launchpad, which involved giving advice on Oxford interview technique, as well as running practice interviews and tutorials.

My Proudest Achievements

My proudest achievement is getting into Oxford for not only my Undergraduate degree, but once again for my Masters – I didn’t think I ever would, let alone twice! I’m also hugely proud to have been awarded an Academic Scholarship in my final year, a First Class in my BA, and a Distinction for my MSt.
