Programming Tutors: 1-1 Programming Preparation

Hi! I’m Mieszko.

I was successful in an application to study Computer Science at Oxford, while helping to lead a twice-a-week 2 hour long mentoring sessions, tutoring 3 other students with their admissions tests. One of these got an interview at Oxford, another got into Oxford, and a third was successful in applying to Cambridge.

Since then, I’ve completed 2 years in Oxford (after an early transfer to a joint honours Maths and Computer Science course). In my most recent exams, I achieved the equivalent of a first class – “the equivalent of” because the actual results combine both this year, and the next one.

Outside college, I do a decent amount of sports, including hiking, squash and judo, though recently I’ve been quite into pool. I play piano, watch a fair amount of TV and read a fair amount of books – recently both have been “This Is Going To Hurt – Diaries of a Junior Doctor”.

My name is Youssef, and with over 8 years of comprehensive teaching experience, I’ve developed a deep understanding of subjects ranging from biology and chemistry to physics and computer science. Specializing in various exam boards such as AQA, Edexcel, OCR, and WJEC, I ensure a tailored approach to meet the specific needs of my students.

In biology, I delve into topics like genetics, evolution, and ecology, igniting a passion for the natural world. From Newton’s laws to electromagnetic phenomena, I strive to make physics both understandable and fascinating for my students.

Moreover, in the ever-evolving field of computer science, I bring my knowledge of programming languages, algorithms, data structures, and software development to the classroom. I have assisted my students in developing their coding skills and understanding the theoretical foundations of computer science. By nurturing their curiosity and encouraging exploration, I aim to inspire the next generation of innovators in this field.

My versatility as an educator extends to teaching English, where I enhance reading, writing, and comprehension skills, instilling critical thinking and effective communication abilities. With a solid understanding of grammar and literature, I empower students to become expressive writers and effective communicators.

With experience teaching students of various age groups, including those with ADHD and dyslexia, I tailor my approach to each individual’s needs and interests. My sessions are not only informative but also lively and engaging, incorporating activities like going over past papers to maximize results.

Outside of teaching, my hobbies include playing video games, listening to music, watching movies, and photography. Overall, my commitment, expertise, and adaptability as an educator shine through, as I strive to instill a love for learning and help students realize their full potential across all school levels, from primary to A-levels.

Hi, my name is Aviral! I’m a 4th year medical student at the University of Cambridge. Back when I completed my A levels and GCSEs I attained A*s across the board. However, now that I have completed my bachelor’s degree (BA Cantab) and have 3 years of tutoring under my belt, experience has matured my knowledge and teaching style.

I have a passion for helping students learn to learn themselves – tutoring should prepare a student to learn rather than just how to regurgitate information! I also know how gruelling the medical application process can be. It is challenging to integrate applications for several separate universities into 1 PS while preparing for an onslaught of interviews. I am experienced in helping students prepare for all parts of the application process, including the UCAT, in which I scored in the top 0.1%.

Aside from my focus on the sciences, I also have experience in programming. I gained formal experience in this as part of my bioinformatics component of my degree, in which I attained a high first-class mark (78%). Otherwise, I use coding in statistical analysis in research and for designing productivity tools to assist note taking. I am happy to help beginners wanting to get to grips with coding!

In other words, I want to help students gain skills for their higher education and beyond not just prepare for exams. Yet all the same, I help students learn the realism of targeted learning. Many things in secondary school to university applications and even higher education are based on some sort of mark scheme!
