HPAT Tutors : 1-1 HPAT Preparation

Hi, my name is Joanna, and I am currently a General Practice Trainee with a strong passion for teaching, mentoring, and supporting aspiring medical students. I am also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), reflecting my commitment to high-quality teaching and creating effective, student-centred learning environments.

The road to medicine can be long and challenging, but you don’t have to navigate it alone. Having gone through the journey myself, I aim to pass on the knowledge, strategies, and experience I have gained over the years. My goal is not only to help you succeed in the medical school application process, but also to help you develop the resilience, confidence, and long-term skills that will support you throughout medical school and beyond.

I teach UCAT, helping students develop effective approaches to each section of the exam, improve their timing and accuracy, and build the stamina needed to perform confidently under pressure. Rather than relying solely on shortcuts, I focus on helping students understand how they think, identify areas for improvement, and develop strategies that work for them.

Beyond medicine, I have a passion for languages and take great pride in being able to communicate in several languages. I also teach IELTS and have helped many students achieve scores higher than they initially aspired to.

My experience as an FHEA has further strengthened my approach to education, allowing me to apply evidence-based teaching methods and adapt sessions to different learning styles. I aim to make learning engaging, structured, and personalised, while encouraging students to become confident and independent learners.

Hello! My name is Maria, and I am a first year Medicine student at University College Dublin – Ireland, where I got in thanks to passing my Diploma and HPAT exams, which are the subjects that I offer professional tutoring in – HPAT, Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics are all areas that I studied myself for years and would love to share my knowledge and experience with students, ensuring they get suitable, individually tailored support, propelling them forward to exam results they are absolutely satisfied with 🙂
I am a friendly, and outgoing person and love working with others – whether it is colleagues, students or other tutors. My tutoring consists of walking from a big theoretical concept smoothly to practical exam skills and questions, providing feedback and support at every step of the way preparing for the big exam day. Hi! I can offer help with the GAMSAT, GCSE English and Spanish and also the HPAT if needed. I did my undergraduate in UCD in English with a specialisation in Spanish.
GAMSAT:
Despite not having a science background, I managed to raise my section 3 score by 15 points over two sittings, which, along with my high section 1 and 2 scores, was enough for entrance to medical school in Ireland. I sat the GAMSAT twice myself. I used a wide variety of resources and tried a few different study styles and approaches to the exam. I have a way of approaching each question which worked for myself and a friend who I tutored, and which will hopefully work for you! I have an approach to section 2 that I haven’t heard from anyone else but which appears to work. I also know a lot of people who sat the GAMSAT and I can tell you the various approaches to section 2 I heard. I know how frustrating GAMSAT can be so I really hope I can provide some insight into the exam and help you get into medical school! I’m currently in UL so if anyone is interested in going there I can answer any questions you have!

GCSE Spanish/English:
Along with my undergraduate I lived in Spain every summer between the ages of 11 and 17 so I can definitely help you out if you’re looking for a Spanish tutor! I also have some experience teaching a foreign language as I teach English to children at weekends.
