About Me

My name is Patrick, I am from County Leitrim, and I am studying Medicine in Galway.
I sat the HPAT three times, and having scored high enough my third time around, I feel like I have learned all the tricks of the trade! The exam is about endurance, stamina, confidence and belief. People who score high in the HPAT are not all the same; there is no ideal brain for this exam. The HPAT must be tackled in a way that works for you, and confidence is key. Having taken different approaches to the exam each year, I feel I have the skill to work with a student in a way that works for them, improving both their strengths and weaknesses.
So many students have the ability to become great doctors, I’m here to help them get over this hurdle and on the right track.

My favourite subject in Medicine is all things Anatomy! When I’m not in lectures, I love swimming in Salthill or going for walks along the shore. I am very involved in our universities Musical society, I love performing and working with a large cast!

My teaching style

I tackle section one with understanding in one hand and a quick pace in the other. Once you know what to look for in a question, as well as which questions to answer first, a student can avoid the panic and complete this section with a cool head. I loved English in Leaving Cert and received a H1. I like to give students the chance to expand their vocabulary for section two, and encourage them to put themselves in the shoes of the character/patient. It is about finding the emotion behind the words. Section three is a great section to pick up marks. I have some tips and tricks that helped me through this section and saved me a lot of time in the exam. It is important to find and recognise each question; familiarity is key.

My Proudest Achievements

Scored a 1:1 in my first year Medical exams
Received my first offer in the CAO
Won the overall runner up group in the BT Young Scientist during transition year
Received four H1s in English, Biology, Music and French
