I am currently an undergraduate studying Psychology at Durham University, pursuing a career as an educational psychologist. Hence, I am always ready and happy to help others, especially with academics. I have prior experience helping my brother with his studies in IB and GCSE, alongside volunteering to tutor younger students (age 12-15) in Maths and Biology during my high school years. I have also lived in Asia, Europe and the UK, and hence have a broader understanding of the different cultural pressures associated with education.
In 2024, I graduated from the IB diploma programme in the top 10% of my cohort, so I am no stranger to a good work ethic and using effective study strategies to get top marks. I am also familiar with the high-pressure environment of examinations, and so am able to give advice on how to maintain a work-life balance based on experience if requested. My favourite subjects were Psychology, Biology and Literature, but I mostly miss the supportive educational environment — fostered by my peers and teachers — that enabled me to thrive in my adolescent years. I now strive to create the same warm and informative environment with my future tutees, where questions are not just welcomed but encouraged.

Hi 👋 I’m Kara, a History and Politics graduate from Brasenose college, Oxford! I am super passionate about all things History and Politics as well as International Relations, English literature and Economics. I am available to help students with a wide range of challenges, from Economics A-level to achieving full marks in an EPQ. Outside of studying, I enjoy travelling, reading fiction and all types of exercise, especially the gym and I am a firm believer in having a great work life balance. After studying independently for many months during the pandemic and missing GCSEs, I am in a unique position to understand the mental stress placed on high achieving students who have missed large parts of their education; as your tutor I will do everything I can to support you academically and emotionally. I’m a Law graduate from the London School of Economics with a Master’s in Law from BPP University. Along the way, I achieved A*A*A*A at A-Level (Maths, English Language & Literature, Law, and an EPQ) and top grades at GCSE. Fortunately, as a result, I am very flexible in terms of subject offering.

I have nearly two years of tutoring experience, working both one-to-one and in group settings at Kumon (a tuition centre), where I helped students of different ages and abilities build confidence and achieve their goals. This experience taught me how to adapt my teaching style to each student’s needs—whether that’s breaking down tricky concepts, keeping lessons engaging, or helping with exam technique.

I completed an AS Level award in English Literature and A Levels in History, Psychology and Art and Design. I then achieved a 2:1 in BSc Applied Psychology at Liverpool John Moores University in 2014. In 2018, I successfully completed a PGCert from the University of Birmingham in Low Intensity Psychological Interventions, and in 2021 I qualified as a teacher of Art and Design.
I am a creative-thinking and motivated individual looking for a new challenge to broaden my horizons. I have previously worked as a psychological talking therapist, and I am also a qualified secondary teacher with extensive experience in schools; which has led me to my current role as an SEN tutor for adolescents who are refusing school attendance. My role is to provide them with the emotional support and encouragement needed to return to school, as well as helping them to learn and revise all curriculum material needed to pass their exams. I relish the opportunity to build positive relationships with others, as this is what motivates me, and I love to see meaningful changes which lead to bright futures; as a result of the work that myself and others have put in. I believe that in order to overcome any challenge, the first step is to identify the barriers to change. This requires the development of trusting relationships with students, as well as their parents and key staff members at their enrolled schools. Once these barriers are identified, we are able to collaboratively come up with a tailored plan to integrate students back into school.

Hello, my name is Simon Hackett , and I’m an experienced tutor, Director at 4 Life Education alternative education provision, and ex Deputy Head at a vocational education setting. I’ve spent many years working with children and teenagers who haven’t quite found their place in mainstream school—and I know from experience that with the right support, the right approach, and a bit of patience, every young person can thrive.
