I am a recent Oxford graduate (Master’s) and am passionate about Psychology and academic research. I love inspiring students by sharing my knowledge engagingly as well as fostering critical thinking skills instead of sole memorisation. I enjoy getting to know my students and genuinely interacting with them, and watching them develop to unlock their full potential.
Growing up, I enjoyed playing music such as the violin and piano, and also picked up the ukulele during the pandemic lockdown. In my spare time, I love to travel. I recently returned from a one-month trip to China where I worked as a teacher for a Winter English Camp and also got to enjoy exploring different cities. I thoroughly enjoyed living abroad in South Korea during my exchange programme, as well as Hawaii during my gap year.
I’m a first-year medical student at Imperial College London, and I still remember what it felt like to be on the other side of exams, entrance tests, and medicine applications. I achieved all 9s and one 8 at GCSE, scored in the top 5% of the UCAT, and served as Head Girl at my secondary school. While I’m proud of these achievements, what they really reflect is consistency, balance and learning how to study smart – not just hard.
As the eldest daughter of a first-generation immigrant Korean family, I grew up with responsibility and high expectations, but also the quiet doubts that can come with them. This part of my identity is why I’m especially passionate about helping students who may be struggling with studies or applications – because I’ve genuinely been there myself.
I’m friendly, patient, and easy-going, and I aim to create a space where students feel comfortable asking ‘silly’ questions (which are never actually silly!). I particularly enjoy mentoring aspiring medics with UCAT preparation, personal statements, and interview practice, offering sometimes brutally honest but practical advice from experience.
Alongside my studies, I’m part of Imperial Medics Women’s Football, which keeps me grounded and reminds me of the importance of balance. Above all, I want my students not only to achieve top grades, but to feel confident and proud of how far they’ve come.
I have been tutoring for almost a decade now, different subjects and various ages. I taught students from as little as 4 and up to 58. I do believe that the way I teach a student and the technique I choose for them is not based on the age range but on the student themself. Every individual absorbs information in a different way regardless of their age and every individual also understands at a different pace. This has nothing to do with one being smarter than the other but this is how the human brain is, every brain is different and that is fine. We as teachers have to understand that brain and approach in the way that is tailored to it.
Tutoring may be a job but it is a hobby as well, I adore helping people realise how smart they are and to enhance their knowledge. This is actually one of the main reasons why I chose Psychology and Counselling as my degree, communicating and helping people is something very important to me.
