About Me
Hello!
My name is Olivia Kim and I’m a current PGCE General Primary student at the Universty of Cambridge. Prior to this, I was studying Law at King’s College London where I graduated with a 2:1. At secondary, I studied under the International Baccalaureate’s Diploma Programme (IBDP), where I took History, Geography and Biology at Higher Level, and Maths, English Literature and French at Standard Level.
On my PGCE course, I am training to be a primary teacher, largely working with those in KS2 (Ages 9-11), and have experience teaching entire classes all subjects across the National Curriculum. I’ve worked with students with ADHD, dyslexia and selective mutism, as well as those from a range of different levels of achievement. I’m also happy to teach those older than KS2, as I am looking into shifting from primary to secondary level education.
I have experience tutoring students in History in Year 13, as well as teaching Maths, English and Korean to a student when they were in Year 4 and 5.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch! I’m more than happy to discuss more about my abilities, as well as how I can best help, regardless of whether the topic is within my list.
My teaching style
As someone with experience teaching entire classes, tutoring offers a wonderful opportunity to for me to really hone in on developing one student’s achievements. There is no one-size-fits-all solution to teaching, and I prioritising getting to know the student and what best motivates them before looking at attainment. I prioritise a love for learning above all else, and believe students can only do their best when motivated to do so. I have had plenty of experience myself with teachers that simply focused on results, that have squashed my desire to learn any further past exam material.
My past experience
Spent 5 months (in weekly chunks) teaching a Year 6 class of 31 students, working from singular lessons to entire weeks of teaching.
I’ve also tutored 3 students previously, two in IB DP HL History and one student whilst they were in Year 4 and 5 in English, Maths and Korean.
My Proudest Achievements
As someone who originally studied Law for my undergraduate degree, I am incredibly proud of myself for having the courage to completely pivot into education. Whilst the experience was full of unknown and difficulty, I was aware that education was something I was passionate about, and do not regret the decision whatsoever.
