Hi! I am currently in my first year at Pembroke College, the University of Oxford, studying English Language and Literature. For A-Level, I studied French, History and English Literature at A-Level. I specialise in Textual Scholarship, with a particular focus on Rare Books, Archives and Library Studies. Academically, I am interested in Experimental Wartime Modernist Literature, Old English Translation, Censorship in Literature, Short Stories, Genetic Criticism, Print Culture, The History of the Book and the Influence of Jazz on Literature (James Baldwin and Langston Hughes are my favourite writers!). Outside of the classroom, I also enjoy photography, DJing, playing basketball, cycling, rowing, cooking vegan food and listening to all types of music.
In High School, I was very active in my school community. I launched my own volunteer tutoring and mentoring service alongside becoming Managing Director of a sustainable plastic-free toiletry kit student company and coached all age groups of basketball. I was lucky enough to win the Harvard Book Prize due to my academic performance and contribution to the school community and in my pre-university summer, I won the ISLA Academic Gift and became an Oxford Crankstart Scholar. Public speaking is something I also enjoy and I successfully earned a distinction in my Speaking in Public LAMDA Grade 8 Gold Award, where I had to write and perform three speeches.
Hello! My name is Zarah, and I am an English literature and language graduate from the University of Oxford.
My journey to Oxford from a state school has taught me more than anything the importance of understanding the process. Having a mentor myself, I greatly benefitted from learning about the Oxford system, and now I have gone through it, I would love to pass on this information.
My hobbies include reading, watching films, cooking and travelling. As a student, it is so important to not lose your hobbies and instead use them as a break from work to avoid burnout. That is why I emphasise to my students that overworking, while it may help retain information, is detrimental to exams and interviews. Being overwhelmed is what we want to avoid, and so my tutoring emphasises working efficiently more than anything. I hope to help students learn how to set and achieve goals through efficient working routines and am excited to help you on your journey to A*s and Oxbridge.

🌟How can 11+ English tuition help my son / daughter?
The 11+ English exam tests more than just a child's basic skills, and is different to what they will likely do at school. Just doing past papers will not help your child understand the theory behind the question. Having an 11 plus English tutor means that your child has a personal mentor to motivate and coach them, and additionally a teacher to provide specific 1-1 help focused on the individual weaknesses your child has in 11+ subjects.
⏰When should my child start preparing for the 11 plus English?
The best time to begin preparing your child for the 11+ English test depends on various variables. However, several sources indicate that starting roughly 12 months before the exam is a normal preparation schedule. 1 This normally implies that most youngsters begin their preparation around 9 or 10.
It is worth noting that several sources emphasise the necessity of developing core abilities before Year 4, focusing on subjects such as maths and language. Early development of these abilities can give a good foundation for future 11+ English training.
💯What score should my child aim for?
The 11+ English exam score your child should strive for will vary based on the specific needs of the institutions to which they are applying. It is critical to conduct research on the target schools and understand their scoring expectations.
Some institutions may publish statistics on the average or middle 50% range of results for their enrolled students. Aim for a score in the range of the schools your child is considering. If the typical first-year student received a given score, it is recommended that your child get at least that level.
