→ Do I get a certificate?
Upon successfully finishing the programme, you will receive a customized certificate that enhances your future applications. This certificate not only distinguishes you but also demonstrates your commitment to your chosen career. → Do I have to live in the UK to do this?
We facilitate convenient arrangements for our international students residing overseas, with 70% of our student body falling into this category. We offer pick-up services from Heathrow airport to the accommodation, where a member of the Study Mind team will greet you. Additionally, if necessary, we will also arrange transportation back to your departure terminal.
→ How old does my child have to be to attend this?
We recommend this course for individuals aged 14-25, including students in Year 9 or above and graduate entry applicants.
→ What is the cancellation policy?
The Young Computer Scientist Experience week is non-refundable once booked, as it involves thorough planning, including accommodation and room reservations. If you're unsure about attendance but want to secure your spot, a non-refundable deposit of £500 can be paid, with the remaining payment due before the course begins.
→ Will my child have to travel between sites alone?
Safety is a top priority during our Young Computer Scientist Experience week. Your child will be accompanied by the Study Mind Safeguarding team for any necessary travel, including a 30-minute train journey to and from the accommodation to the hospitals/hospice, ensuring full assistance throughout.
→ What is the accomodation like and where will I be staying?
You will be staying at UCL Accommodation in single rooms, with breakfast and dinner provided. Your stay will begin from Sunday night (the day before the course) until the last day of the course (Friday), totaling six nights. The premises feature 24/7 security, and our Study Mind staff, trained in first aid and safeguarding, will be available to provide assistance. Additionally, airport pick-up arrangements can be organized for your convenience.
→ How do I apply for a visa?
Students coming to the UK for the Young Computer Scientist Experience will need a Standard Visitor visa- https://www.gov.uk/standard-visitor
The Standard Visitor visa can only be applied for by parents/guardians and costs £100. They must apply through the UK Gov website only, You can name our course and Study Mind as the guardians of under 18s, and provide then the course information and booking confirmation when applying for the visa.
We recommend booking flights first before applying for the visa, as the visa needs proof of a return flight (the course end date might be enough, but might result in rejection).

→ Who will be looking after my child?
During the entirety of the programme, your child will receive committed assistance from our Study Mind staff. All staff members undergo DBS enhanced checks and comprehensive training in first aid and safeguarding. We guarantee the presence of a female staff member both on-site and within our accommodation premises. Students will have access to a 24-hour emergency contact number, available at any time. Moreover, if necessary, this number can be shared with parents and guardians.
→How many days does the Young Computer Scientist Experience run for?
The summer school programme extends over five days, starting at 9 am and typically finishing around 3:30 pm each day. However, you will receive a detailed timetable in advance with specific timings. If you opt to stay at UCL Halls, we have planned exciting evening activities for your enjoyment, such as movie nights, bowling, and various engaging options.
→ Do I need to pay up front?
We acknowledge the challenges presented by the current economic situation regarding upfront payments. To offer flexibility, we provide interest-free installment plans for 3, 6, and 12 months. It's important to note that a non-refundable deposit of £500 is required to secure your spot.
→ Do I need to book Study Mind's accomodation?
Reserving our accommodation is not obligatory. You have the choice to either commute or make your own accommodation arrangements if needed. However, there are advantages to securing our accommodation. By opting for it, you will receive support and assistance from our dedicated team, and you will also have the opportunity to reside alongside other students participating in the Young Computer Scientist Experience programme.
