8About Me
Hi! My name is Charlotte Maple and I am an Oxford History/ Ancient History DPhil (PhD) student, Oxford Masters graduate (Distinction/First Class) and BA Graduate (High 2.1), double Blue in Football and Cricket, and experienced Oxbridge admissions tutor who knows the Oxbridge admissions process inside and out and wants to help you achieve your goals! I am more specifically a Roman History ‘nerd’, with a passion for outreach, sports and History at Oxford (BleedDarkBlue).
Coming from a state school in the Southwest with no previous Oxbridge Alumni, I understand the limitations facing students applying from the state sector. I use my experiences and the experiences of my Oxford peers to the advantage of my students, for example, I was the Oxbridge Admissions Tutor for Huish Episcopi Academy from 2024-2025, delivering tailored workshops to year 12 students to help write the perfect personal statement and prepare for interviews. As a student at Oxford, 4/4 students from the Southwest whom I tutored in the summer of my first year received offers from Oxford the following January.
I have, for the last 4 years, been studying for 2 degrees in Ancient History at the University of Oxford which has been one of the most enriching experiences of my life. I have since graduated from the BA in Ancient and Modern History with a high 2.1 and the MSt in Roman History with a Distinction (First). Now, I am continuing my studies as a DPhil student in Ancient History with the eventual goal of beginning a career in Academia and HE. I have studied a broad range of history in detail, from the early Roman Republic to Modern British History. My speciality is Roman history, having studied the Roman world from republic to empire extensively. I have been through the Oxford admissions process successfully 3 times, so you could say I know the Oxford admissions process very well.
I play Blues Cricket and Football at Oxford, and am the first woman in Oxford’s History to hold a Full Blue in both sports, so I know much about the need for time management at Uni, and the benefits of competitive sports alongside rigorous study!
I have been an ambassador for my college, Lady Margaret Hall, (the first college to accept women at Oxford/coolest college at Oxford) for 3 years during my undergraduate degree and the president of the Lady Margaret Hall History society from 2021-2022, so I’m personable and genuinely like talking to and meeting new people!
Outside of Oxbridge, I have an impressive set of A-level and GCSE results. I have just completed a year training to be a secondary school teacher, teaching KS3 and KS4 History/English on a 25-hour fortnight timetable, therefore, I come with genuine teaching experience and a good knowledge of teaching and learning techniques. I would be a capable tutor for students of all abilities in History, Maths, English Literature and German, having tutored students in these subjects since 2022.
I remember how daunting, mysterious and impossible the Oxbridge admissions process seemed to me when I was applying in 2019 and I want to help bust a few myths for aspiring students. I want to show all students regardless of background that Oxbridge has a place for them if they want it, and that they can ace any test, interview or exam they’ll need to face to get there!

My teaching style
I teach best in small groups or 1-1 with a mantra ‘practice makes perfect’. I will be focussing on keeping lessons light and fun, but memorable, as A-levels, GCSE’s and the pressure of an Oxbridge application are tough enough! I would include fun/ whacky interview warm up exercises, running through brainstorming past paper questions together without time pressure and interview practice focusing on spoken communication by getting students to talk about what makes them really tick.
I mainly want to instill ‘belief’ in my students; one of the biggest barriers you face when sitting exams or taking interviews is actually believing that you can be successful. I want to teach students that, simply, if I could do it, so can you!
My past experience
I have tutored 4 A-level students so far from state schools across the Southwest in passing the Oxbridge admissions process, from personal statements, aptitude tests to interview prep. All 4 received offers from Oxford University for the academic years 2022 and 2023 from some of the most prestigious colleges. I am now looking to bring my knowledge to a wider pool of students who want to get into Oxbridge!
I have also tutored in A-levels to much success, my students achieving three A’s minimum in subjects from History, English lit, German and Maths!
My Proudest Achievements
My proudest moment has to be opening my Oxford admissions letter in January 2020. I opened it alone in my bedroom to read the words ‘I am delighted to offer…’ and immediately ran down the stairs and jumped up and down in excitement before my parents, which they got involved with and turned into a slightly awkward jump-hug. Coming from a school 6th form where no student had ever got into Oxford or Cambridge before, this felt like a big deal.
Other highlights include playing in the annual Cricket varsity at Lords Cricket Ground (now at Lords for the women too!) in the summer of my second year (2022) at Oxford, achieving a double blue in Football and Cricket by playing in the annual football varsity at Oxford City in March 2023, and finishing my undergraduate and masters degrees after a series of summer finals in 2023 and 2024, and even coming away with that precious First in the MSt!
