10About Me
Hi, my name is Ruth and I recently graduated from Cambridge with a BA in Modern and Medieval Languages, specialising in Italian, Ancient Greek and Linguistics.
I’ve spent time living in Italy where I taught languages, I’ve taught science in primary schools, and I’ve supported students through Oxbridge applications.
I achieved all A*s/9s in my GCSEs, and all A*s in my A Levels (French, Italian, Politics, Ancient Greek). Alongside building competencies in languages, I also enjoy delving into the culture, history and literature of a language – I believe that combining language and culture leads to a much fuller learning experience.
My background in linguistics as well as language learning puts me in a strong position to explain the reason for certain rules of quirks within a language – as well as understanding the linguistic research behind how students learn languages best.
My teaching style
My lessons are interactive, and focused on helping a student gain confidence in the topic they’re engaging in or the language they’re speaking. I create a supportive environment in which students feel comfortable and able to make mistakes, allowing them to push themselves. I tailor my lessons to how students study best, and work with students to create a personalised plan to help them reach their goals and understand where they’re at on their learning journey.
I have experience teaching students with additional needs and I am committed to making adjustments to ensure lessons are accessible.
My past experience
I have over 250 hours of experience tutoring, and over 150 hours of experience teaching classes. I’ve taught English as a Second Language, Italian, French, Ancient Greek. I’ve also taught and supported students of primary school and middle school age in a variety of subjects such as maths and science.
My Proudest Achievements
I’m proud of being offered a place to study languages at the University of Cambridge and of graduating with a First Class with Distinction. These achievements meant a lot to me because they showed that my hard work and commitment were worthwhile.
