Tia
About Me
Hi there! My name is Tia and I am a recent graduate from the University of Oxford with a degree in French and Spanish. I have experience teaching French, Spanish and English to a range of students at all levels.
As a graduate in languages, I know exactly what foundations need to be laid to excel at French and Spanish, and I’m familiar with a range of exam boards. Having myself achieved 9s at GCSE in both languages, and A stars at A-Level, I am well-placed to support students. Beyond A-Level, I am keen to work with students who are prospective Oxbridge applicants. Having worked as an Open Day helper for the university, with experience running mock interviews for Christ Church, I know exactly what tutors look for in admissions and how to stand out.
My degree was centred around literature, and so I also enjoy tutoring English Language and English Literature to A-Level. I achieved 100% in both my English Language and English Literature GCSES (Edexcel) and I’m comfortable with a range of texts.
My teaching style
I genuinely believe each student requires a different approach depending on their specific goals, so my teaching style is take a careful and personalised. In my first lesson I see where a students’ strengths and weaknesses are, then I use that knowledge as a springboard to decide on the best course of action. From then on, I like making creative and varied lesson plans blending different types of task and giving regular feedback to my tutee.
My past experience
For those interested in languages, I’ve had experience tutoring French to students as young as 7 all the way up to A-Level, and have tutored Spanish right the way from KS3 to Admissions level. Having worked as a student helper at the Oxford University Open Days, I have particularly strong knowledge of the admissions process, what tutors are looking for and how to ace the MLAT.
I’ve also tutored many students at KS3, GCSE and A-Level for English Language and English Literature. In KS3, I’ve got lots of experience building strong foundations in terms of analysis and essay writing, having tutored students in 7-9. I’m also particularly familiar with the Edexcel GCSE Course, but can tutor on a wide range of texts and exam boards. I know how to hone in on exam technique to produce top results, having myself achieved full marks in both my GCSE Language and Literature. I can also offer good support at A-Level for students who need to meet grades and struggle to understand difficult texts or make the jump from GCSE.
