About Me
Hey there!
I am Jay, I was born and brought up in Bath. I am currently a second year student at the London School of Economics and Political Science studying economics. For my A-levels, I took maths, chemistry, economics and further maths and achieved A*A*A*A with 98% in economics, 97% in chemistry and 96% in maths achieving the highest in my year in chemistry and economics.
Since childhood I have always been sporty. I love playing cricket, rugby and golf in my spare time. I enjoy going on walks and runs and spending time with friends and family. I love travelling and exploring new places and cultures. I play the piano (grade 8) and am trying to teach myself the drums! I also love driving and trying out new cars. It has always been a passion of mine since childhood and I have a very big dream car collection!
My teaching style
I like to understand at first what the student is looking to gain from the lessons with me. Are they trying to improve test scores, technique or work on a particular topic? Once I understand that, I tailor the lesson accordingly. For instance if a student struggles with fractions in maths, I will make a brief cheat outlining all the various methods and tricks (adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing) and go through examples with them asking them if they are following as we go alone. Once they are confident, I will make a few practice questions that they can work on alone to see how they have understood the topic.
My past experience
I have been tutoring since June 2021. I first sent out a letter online saying I was offering tutoring services to students and managed to get three students in secondary school within the first week. From then, I was able to build a good reputation amongst parents (I am happy to provide a reference) and so I was able to tutor more students in and around my area through word of mouth. In 2024, I was approached by the founder of Progressio Tuition who offered me a tutoring job and I have been tutoring for them online ever since.
My Proudest Achievements
My A-level grades. Whilst I did not get 4 A* which still bugs me to this day (!), the circumstances in which I did those exams were far from ideal and I was incredibly proud with the results and scores I achieved in those exams.
