Abena
About Me
Hello there, my name is Abena and I live in East London. I’m a really friendly, enthusiastic tutor, who enjoys helping students achieve their academic goals. Education has always been a huge priority in my life and I’ve had teachers that have helped me with my motivation and performance. They not only helped me with my subjects but also my motivation, something I hope to pass on to my future students as well.
Apart from tutoring, I enjoy cheerleading for my university and also part of the committee as the IT officer, helping with setting up the websites and posting on social media. In addition to this, I’m also president of two societies Oxford Black Medics Society and Mitski Society. I also regularly attend the gym and enjoy learning Spanish and Mandarin.
Fun fact: My name means I was born on a Tuesday
My teaching style
My teaching style consists of laying down the material of the subject and then testing the student with short questions during the lessons and exam questions at the end of the lesson. This helps with being able to not only learn a subject but also assists with applying the learning to exam questions which will ultimately improves knowledge and helps with exam preparation. Alongside this, I also observe the weak spots of the students and help to improve these with focus on the topic until the student is confident with it. Every student is different therefore this process may not be as suitable with all students but I am always able to adapt to a method that best helps them.
My past experience
I have a history of tutoring not only my 3 younger siblings but I worked in a tutor centre in 2018-2019. I’ve also tutored with medic mind for the past four years.
My Proudest Achievements
My proudest achievement would be creating the Oxford Black Medics society and creating a community with those similar to me. Creating academic and social events catering to subjects that are of interest to medical students of black heritage has made me feel very fulfilled.
