About Me
Hi! I’m Julia and I am currently in my second year studying Economics at Trinity College, Cambridge.
Having achieved strong A*’s in both Maths and Further Maths A-level, I believe my enjoyment of maths and problem solving is evident through the numerous mathematics competitions I have participated in and won (including the National Mathematics Olympiad for Girls and University of Liverpool’s U16 Maths Challenge).
Studying Economics at Cambridge has given me insight into the practical applications of mathematics and statistics, and I have found it fascinating seeing the ways in which maths has formed the backbone of economic models.
In this way, my genuine interest in maths and problem solving is expressed through an enthusiastic and supportive approach to tutoring.
Outside of education, I am part of my college rowing team, which provides both a welcome break from academics and is a great way to stay disciplined, organised and motivated.
My teaching style
I am a strong believer of a student-led interactive approach and I tailor my tutoring to each specific student to improve their skills, but more importantly, their confidence in approaching tough problems.
In this way, I aim to make students more prepared to tackle difficult questions calmly, quickly and methodically – the key to success!
Having sat the TMUA and been through the interview process less than two years ago, I understand exactly how challenging the exams and interviews can be. As a tutor, I hope that our sessions will create a space for students to ask questions without fear of making mistakes, as well as an opportunity to share strategies I used to be successful in the process.
My Proudest Achievements
During my A-levels, I supported other Maths students with weekly 1:1 tutoring. One of my tutees was able to improve her grade from a low C to an A over the course of 6 months; it was incredibly rewarding seeing how both her and my hard work paid off!
