13About Me
Hello! My name is Jaimini and I have recently graduated from the University of Oxford with a first class degree in Classics. I specialised in Greek literature and philosophy but also had the chance to hone my Latin skills. I am keen to help out with CAT preparation, mock interviews, personal statement help and anything else Classics admission related.
I did English Literature and History to A level too, and have kept up my passion for modern literature (my favourite novel is Daphne Du Maurier’s Rebecca, which I completed an EPQ on). I am also keen to tutor English up to A level. I can help with both essay writing and general text based revision, having myself achieved the highest mark in the world in English Literature GCSE and continuing the subject onto A level, achieving an A*.
In my spare time, I really enjoy playing the piano and collecting vinyls to listen to on my record player. I am also a bookworm, so always happy to try and weave in my students’ favourite books into sessions when possible :).
My teaching style
I often think the best tutoring lessons start with pre-prepared work which we can use as a springboard for discussion, talking through any mistakes once the student has had the chance to think through their strategies themselves. I am also always happy to bring some on the spot translation to do. I employ a discussion based approach for more literary subject matter, alternating between thematic conversations and close reading of set texts. I am always happy to mark extra work in advance of sessions, especially in the run up to exam season.
My past experience
I have previously taught Year 9 school students Ancient Greek on a voluntary basis to give them a head start before they embark upon their GCSE. Extensive editorial experience in student journalism has also let me develop my skills of proofreading and improving discursive writing.
My Proudest Achievements
I ranked third in my year in my Classics Prelims (first exams sat in Oxford), achieving the highest mark for Greek literature papers. I also won the Newnham College Cambridge essay prize for History in Year 12, as this was a subject I was thinking of applying for. I achieved GCSE certificates for attaining the highest mark in the world in GCSE English Literature and History.
