About Me

Hi, my name is Aba and I am a recent graduate from Emmanuel College, University of Cambridge (2023). I am really passionate about education and during 2020, I set up my academic blog called “TheStudentScope”. I wrote over 15 articles on how to attain academic success and my blog reached over 20 countries with around 3000 page visits. I have also mentored students privately for the last year, with 2 of my previous tutees both getting Cambridge offers for Law.

My extra-curricular activities include sport and music. I have played netball casually and ran track competitively from the age of 12, racing around the country in the women’s 100m and 4x100m for Derbyshire. I also play 4 instruments but my favourites are piano and guitar! During my first and second year at Cambridge, I was BAME officer for the Women in Law Society as well as Secretary for the Cambridge African-Caribbean Society.

I look forward to supporting students achieve their academic goals!

My teaching style

I find that interactive teaching is the best way to keep lessons engaging with questions throughout the lesson to check that any concerns are being addressed. I also like to include quizzes after every section of teaching to ensure that students are retaining what they are learning.

My past experience

During 2018-2020, I tutored KS3 maths for Year 7 students. I also tutored GCSE chemistry for a Year 11 student who then subsequently moved from the foundation to higher paper. I have also privately given interview advice and read and edited over 30 personal statements for university applications.

My Proudest Achievements

Earlier this year, I was shortlisted as one of the UK’s Top 150 Black Leaders by Powerlist Magazine. I also received a training contract from Herbert Smith Freehills (a top city commercial law firm in London).
