Anna
About Me
Hi! My name is Anna, I’ve just finished my first year of medicine at Peninsula Medical school (Plymouth). About me academically: I applied to Exeter, Plymouth, Liverpool and Cardiff in my A level year for a deferred entry, receiving interviews from 3 of these, and an offer from Plymouth. I took the UCAT in the summer of year 12, getting a score of 2800 (in the upper 8th percentile of candidates for that year). During my A levels, I took biology, chemistry and maths, getting A*AA respectively. Me outside of academics (the most important!): I am a keen hockey player and musician, balancing these alongside my medical school application and now medical school itself, and I really advocate for being able to continue these things throughout, it’s really important to have something you enjoy at the same time (and great for your PS!) So far at university, I have passed every exam within the top half of my year group, and I have found some really effective study techniques that work for me and also a lot of my friends, so if you ever have any questions about life after starting university, I am always hear to help! I really hope you will consider me!
My teaching style
I will always cater to your needs! Not everyone finds the same parts of the medical application tricky, and being able to spend more time focusing on these tricky parts will ultimately get you more interviews and offers in the future. I have always been one for practice, I will try to show you how I approach the question beforehand, and give you plenty of resources to use after and during sessions to make sure you fully understand. I like to break things down step by step, it helps me teach but ultimately helps students learn too, and is something I focus on a lot when learning new concepts. Overall, I am super flexible with my teaching style, if something doesn’t work for you, we will easily change the way we do things.
My past experience
I have been tutoring online for a year via a company called Brightside whilst at university, and this has mostly been helping pupils 1:1 with interview prep and UCAT advise. I have also got experience tutoring maths at a GCSE level, but I also have two younger sisters who I have helped along their school journey too, so I feel that I have a lot of experience in lots of different things and I am confident to teach any ability!
My Proudest Achievements
Apart from getting into medical school, as I mentioned in my introduction, I am a massive advocate for having hobbies outside of school. My proudest achievement is probably playing at the BBC proms with the National Youth Orchestra as a French Horn player during COVID. Not only was this a really difficult part of everyone’s life and had a massive affect on my motivation and playing, but the BBC proms are a huge deal and have a huge amount of pressure heaped on. I’m really proud of myself for navigating all of this, and even though i was terrified, it is absolutely one of my favourite memories.
