About Me
Hi! My name is Nia-May and I am an enthusiastic science tutor, dedicated to delivering clear lessons and providing assistance with tricky concepts.
Having self-taught A-level geography and music and achieving an A* and A respectively, I understand the importance of breaking down complex topics into simple ideas and am able to help develop crucial revision skills that will enable students to achieve their desired grades for their current and any future studies.
With 3 A*s, I have obtained an offer from King’s College London to study medicine. My first-hand experience with the long and seemingly difficult application process for medicine allows me to provide guidance on how to balance college mock exams whilst finding appropriate work experience, submitting a personal statement and preparing for interviews.
If you’re looking for a science tutor who turns confusion into confidence, I’m more than happy to help!
My teaching style
For A-levels and GCSE’s understanding the specification is the key foundation to achieving top grades. Therefore when tutoring, the basis of any topic will begin with becoming familiar with the specification.
I avoid purely textbook teaching, instead prioritising understanding or remembering content through a variety of forms, including visual cues and mnemonics. Content learnt is then applied through practice questions and mock walkthroughs. I also encourage students to ask lots of questions to identify any gaps in their knowledge.
My past experience
I have led 1-1 sessions in reading mentoring with students from year 7-9. Additionally, I have led small group tutorial sessions in science for GCSE students.
My Proudest Achievements
My proudest achievements include representing the UK at an international science competition (hosted by EMBL) due to my winning entry combining scientific research with music and art. Additionally, I have had the opportunity to perform internationally on the violin and harp with local orchestras and as a part of chamber groups in Asia, Europe and North America.
