About Me

Hi, I’m Japsimar. I’m a final year medical student at Newcastle University. Over the past 5 years I’ve tutored numerous students, from the UK and internationally. My expertise lies in medical school applications and test prep, as well as A-level sciences and maths. Having been on the medical school’s interview panel I have deep knowledge in the selection process that universities employ and can help you stand out amongst your peers.

Apart from having tutored for a number of years, I also developed a comprehensive university guide for UK medical schools (currently used by most aspiring medical students around the world). I will be able to guide you in the right direction and leverage your achievement to make sure you get multiple offers and finally a place at your chosen medical school.

Having been in your position, I understand how unnerving this process might seem – however, I would love to work together with you to make it seamless and fun at the same time.

My teaching style

My approach to tutoring is slightly different. Back when I applied, I remember using various tutoring services but never found the tutors’ teaching style to suit my needs and strengths. As a result, I promote a strongly student-centric approach and believe in flexibility and patience to work around and meet students’ needs – whether that’s an explanation of the fundamentals or just an encouraging push to motivate you to do your best.

I want you to take control of your learning so you can stay motivated as I’ve previously found that a paternalistic approach can be quite discouraging.

I will ask you what you’d like to achieve: short term (lesson to lesson) and long term (by the end of the entire tutoring experience) and will strive to tailor the lessons as per your expectations.

I also really emphasise on taking an individualised approach and adapting to your learning needs and techniques. We can hone your strengths, work on your weaknesses together and help you put your best foot forward.

My past experience

Over the past 5 years I’ve tutored for various companies across the UK, been an interview panelist for a university and authored a medical school guide for UK and international students. I have extensive experience in the application process and exam preparation. I specialise in tutoring for medical school personal statement, UCAT and interviews. I also tutor A level subjects, having received A* in Maths, Biology, Chemistry.

Most of the students I’ve tutored have gone on to receive multiple offers to study medicine and their chosen universities. I hope we can achieve the same!

My Proudest Achievements

I understand how daunting the medical school application process can seem having been in your position a few years ago. Seeing my tutees’ progress from day 1 to the day they receive their first medical school offer is a truly gratifying experience for me. I really look forward to helping you achieve your goals!
