About Me
Hello! My name is Sehreet Kaur, and I’m a third-year medical student at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to introduce myself and share a bit about my journey as both a medical student and a tutor.
Having navigated the challenges of medical school myself, I understand the demanding yet rewarding nature of this path. From mastering complex concepts to managing time effectively, these experiences have shaped my passion for helping others through their own academic journeys.
Over the past two years, I’ve had the privilege of providing medical school interview preparation and university counselling to around 12 students, with each one successfully securing a place in medical school. I also helped organise and facilitate Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) circuits and pro bono mock interviews, which not only deepened my own understanding but also strengthened my ability to mentor students from diverse backgrounds.
I take pride in creating a supportive and approachable learning environment. As a naturally social person, I enjoy getting to know my students personally and understanding their learning styles, motivations, and goals. I believe that building genuine connections makes the learning experience more meaningful and enjoyable.
My teaching philosophy revolves around patience, structure, and adaptability. I focus on ensuring that students develop a thorough understanding of key concepts without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. I’ve developed an organised and flexible time management system that helps cover all essential content efficiently, while still leaving room for questions and reflection.
Medicine, to me, is more than just a degree, it’s a lifelong commitment to learning, empathy, and growth. Tutoring allows me to share that passion with others, empowering aspiring medical students to approach their applications and interviews with confidence and authenticity.
I know how stressful and uncertain the medical school application process can feel, and I’m here to guide and support you at every step, whether it’s refining your answers, managing nerves, or simply having someone to talk to who’s been through it.
I’m genuinely excited about the opportunity to work with you and help you secure your place in medical school and more importantly, to help you enjoy the journey along the way!
My teaching style
In crafting my teaching style, I like to tailor each session to the individual needs and preferences of my students. Recognizing that every learner is unique, I aim to create an enriching and efficient experience by customizing the content and approach. This personalized touch not only ensures a deeper understanding of the material but also creates a dynamic and engaging learning environment where both the student and I can grow together.
I firmly believe in the power of effective time management. By implementing a comprehensive time management system, I strike a balance that allows us to cover all the essential content without feeling rushed. The time management helps in promoting a stress-free and impactful educational journey. My commitment is to make learning enjoyable, tailored, and efficient for every student I have the privilege of working with.
My past experience
Over the past two years, I have tutored around 12 students in medical school interview preparation and university counselling, and I’m proud to share that every one of them has secured a conditional offer from universities such as Barts, Birmingham, Leicester, St George’s, and RCSI.
In addition to tutoring, I have also served as an interviewer for over 10 Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) sessions last year, which has given me valuable insight into what medical schools look for in prospective students. This experience allows me to provide realistic, high-quality mock interview practice and constructive feedback tailored to each student.
Beyond medical school preparation, I also teach A-level Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, as well as GCSE Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
I’ve had amazing feedback from my students too! They’ve told me they feel comfortable asking questions, and that my sessions help make tough topics way less stressful.
My Proudest Achievements
My proudest achievement is taking the bold step of leaving my home country, India, to pursue a career in medicine in a foreign land, all on my own!! While the prospect was undoubtedly daunting at first, this journey has turned out to be one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. It has not only strengthened my relationship with myself but has also made me a self-independent individual!
I have embraced my new life as a med student with its new characters, joys and challenges. It has taught me that it is worth taking a leap of faith for the things you are passionate about!
