About Me
Hi! I’m Theo, a recent 2025 graduate from Trinity College, Cambridge, reading MML and AMES (Arabic and French). I’m a native French speaker, and I’ll be continuing at Cambridge next year with an MPhil in Modern and Medieval Languages, focusing on Francophone and Arabic thought.
Before university, I was a Major Academic Scholar at Merchant Taylors’ School, where I achieved D1 (A*) in French and Spanish, D2 (A*) in History, and an A* in my Extended Project Qualification. Since then, I’ve studied across the Francophone and Arab worlds, including terms at HEC Paris, the Sorbonne, and the University of Tunis, exploring politics, literature and law through both French and Arabic.
At Cambridge, I have consistently achieved high First-class marks in language and literature papers, including the top university-wide result in the final-year French oral examination. Outside of academics, I was a Choral Scholar at Trinity and helped lead the Trinity College Politics Society, where I hosted high-profile speakers such as Matt Hancock and Baroness Morgan—developing strong communication skills and a passion for mentoring students in public-speaking and interview contexts.
I’ve tutored students in French, Spanish, History and Politics since 2022 and have helped prepare Oxbridge candidates for MML and AMES—7 of my 8 tutees have received conditional offers. I specialise in breaking down complex literary and historical material, building student confidence, and helping ambitious pupils meet their academic goals.
I look forward to helping you succeed!
My teaching style
My teaching style is student-centred, rigorous, and supportive. I focus on building analytical confidence through clarity, structure, and tailored feedback. I break down complex ideas into accessible parts and work closely with students to ensure they not only understand the material but can apply it critically and independently.
In practice, I use a combination of Socratic questioning, model essays, comparative textual analysis, and timed exercises to develop both exam technique and conceptual depth. I frequently assign short, focused written tasks between sessions to reinforce key skills and diagnose areas for improvement. With language students, I combine immersive spoken work with grammatical precision and culturally grounded reading materials.
Whether preparing for an interview, refining an essay, or tackling unseen texts, I encourage students to articulate their ideas clearly, justify their reasoning, and develop their own academic voice. I’m approachable and adaptable, and I create a space where pupils feel confident asking questions and taking intellectual risks.
My past experience
I have extensive tutoring experience across iGCSE/GCSE, A-Level and Pre-U Spanish, French, History, and Government & Politics. Since 2022, I have also provided Oxbridge preparation for applicants in History, Modern and Medieval Languages (MML), and Asian and Middle Eastern Studies (AMES). Of the eight Oxbridge applicants I have supported through interview preparation and admissions test coaching, seven received post-interview offers from Oxford or Cambridge. I also regularly assist students with personal statement drafting, editing, and strategic guidance across these subject areas, helping them present their ideas clearly, persuasively, and with academic depth. My sessions are always tailored to individual needs, whether it’s improving essay structure, deepening subject knowledge, or building confidence ahead of interviews.
My Proudest Achievements
Getting into Trinity College, Cambridge was a dream come true, and I was proud to achieve the top mark in my final-year French oral. But nothing beats the joy of seeing my students grow in confidence and start their own university journeys.
