About Me

Hi I’m Preethi and I’ve just completed my first year of medicine at Cardiff University. As a medical student coming from a state school in an underprivileged area myself, I feel I can draw on my personal experiences to provide honest insight into parts of the application I wish I’d known at the point of applying. With the skills and experience I’ve gained from tutoring GCSE maths and biology for around a year during high school and A level chemistry and biology during college for the same period of time, I feel I can apply this skillset to be a useful mentor for perspective applicants with Medic Mind. Having just gone through the strenuous process of successfully applying to medicine I am a hard working and driven individual who understands the pressure and challenges of medical interviews and personal statements. With the problem solving and lateral thinking skills I’ve developed from my volunteering and work experience I can help provide unique help for smashing medical interviews. Alongside this, I have helped edit and review a number of medical personal statements helping tailor them to successfully gain offers at various medical universities.

My teaching style

I believe in a dynamic and adaptable style of teaching that are centred around the necessities and learning style of the individual student I’m teaching. Whether that be visual, verbal or application of knowledge, my sessions are specific to you so we can get the best out of each lesson. During my sessions, I make lesson plans around your schedule and focus on not only learning content but also applying content to help consolidate my teaching accordingly. I am flexible with good communication and listening skills using constructive feedback to provide organised and relevant lessons, whilst also making them as interactive and engaging as possible.

My past experience

> GCSE Biology and Maths for a year during high school
> A level Biology and Chemistry for a year during college
> Swim Teacher for young disabled children with Special Olympians

My Proudest Achievements

In my free time I enjoy a variety of extra curricular activities such as sports like tennis, swimming (formally at a competitive level) and going to the gym alongside other hobbies like playing the piano (in which I have achieved Grade 6) and reading fiction. My most notable achievements are playing regional level competitive chess and leading a debate team which won an inter-school county level competition. I was also head girl during high school which helped me gain an understanding of team dynamics and leadership to lead a team of fellow senior prefects to organise charity events and other schemes to improve the school community. These skills helped me as a Corporal cadet in St John’s Ambulance where I used my presenting and interpersonal skills, (aided by my distinction in Grade 5 LAMDA award for public speaking) to provide sessions for fellow cadets on first aid and other associated medical conditions.
