About Me
Hi! I’m Sarah and I’m currently in my second year of studying History at the University of Oxford. I am an enthusiastic individual who is determined to make a positive impact on improving access to higher education through education and mentoring by successful applicants. I am a friendly and approachable individual, and I am really excited to help other people get to their dream universities. It can be a really daunting process applying to university, but I hope to make the journey a little easier and comfortable. I believe nobody should be put off applying to top universities if they have the ability to excel there. In school I worked hard for my academic results and it has instilled within me a determination and drive to always aim high, and I hope to extend this optimism to prospective students!
My teaching style
I have tutored in the past and found that the best teaching styles are ones which adapt to a student’s unique way of learning. As a student I am a very audible orientated learner, but I have adopted methods to suit visual learners and other forms of learning that are unconventional but effective in making students think creatively and originally in a way that will impress universities (especially at interview)! I will always listen to my students closely, and orientate my teaching style around what works best for them, but for all my students I try to instil a belief that they can, and should, aim high and work hard to achieve the very best for them.
My past experience
I tutor KS3 students English regularly, but also have experience tutoring GCSE and A-Level students in preparation for exams. I have mentored prospective students to Oxford in the past, and given them guidance on admission tests and interviews that has been beneficial to them in best preparing them for the process which can seem daunting. I have found it rewarding in my previous tutoring work to see my students grasp new concepts under my supervision and excel in their learning with curiosity and enjoyment in the process.
My Proudest Achievements
Receiving an offer to study at Oxford is definitely one of my proudest achievements, having come from a family with no history in higher education. I worked hard for my academic acheivements in school and it was a massive reward to see that hard work pay off and be recognised by an institution like Oxford.
Some of my other acheivements involve sporting, where I have competed against Cambridge in trampolining, which I have been an active participant in since I was very young.
