7About Me
I’m Charlie, a final year Politics undergraduate at the University of Birmingham. After studying Politics, History and Economics for A-Level at Aylesbury Grammar School, I read Political Science and International Relations at the University of Birmingham and California State University, Chico. I have almost three years of tutoring experience alongside my degree, am passionate about writing and enjoy public speaking. It was in Year 12 when I began to see education as more of an opportunity than a burden – when the challenge of learning began to feel exciting. I want to help students at all stages to navigate that shift – to discover where their interest lies and develop the skills necessary to attain their aspirational goals. I am willing and able to work with students of all abilities to overcome their challenges and build the internal motivation, intellectual curiosity and confidence to excel.
My teaching style
My lessons will balance subject knowledge with essay technique, building a thorough understanding of the topic which the student can then confidently articulate in exams. I will not be lecturing – my lessons will be an interactive discussion, a constant conversation through all the improvements we make. To achieve this, I will pay close attention to the specification, textbook material and past papers (and corresponding mark schemes and examination reports). We will also look beyond the textbook to further research for more evidence to support arguments and strengthen essays. Lessons will be tailored to the unique needs of the student to improve their comprehension, writing and confidence. I look forward to getting started.
My past experience
I was a Presenter and Study Coach for almost three years for Elevate Education. My Presenter role involved the solo delivery of lectures to over 100 secondary schools across the UK on exam skills, memorisation, time management and motivational strategies. As a Study Coach I tutored students 1 on 1 to improve their exam technique, essay writing and study skills.
My Proudest Achievements
During my study abroad year at California State University, Chico, I competed for the Model United Nations (MUN) team. At the Northwest MUN conference in Seattle I was awarded the Distinguished Delegate prize for my performance representing the Russian Federation on the Commission for the Status of Women.
