About Me

Hey there everyone! I’m Rajan, and I absolutely love helping students crack the code on maths, physics, and economics. Trust me, I know these subjects can feel like they’re written in another language sometimes, but that’s exactly why I’m here to help!

I’ve been on this journey myself, going from GCSE level all the way through to my current Masters in Physics at Lincoln University. I got an A in Maths, B in Physics, and B in Economics at A-level, plus solid grade 8s in maths and all sciences at GCSE. But here’s the thing, I remember exactly how overwhelming it all felt at times, which is probably why I’m so passionate about making it click for others.

Over the past four years tutoring at ETC Tuition Centre, I’ve helped various students jump from B’s and C’s up to A’s and A*’s. But honestly, the best part isn’t just the grade improvements, it’s watching that lightbulb moment when everything suddenly makes sense. You know that feeling when a really confusing concept finally clicks? That’s what I live for.

What makes my approach different is that I’ve actually used this stuff in the real world. I’m currently working as a data science intern, I’ve done actuarial analysis. So when you ask “when will I ever use this?” I can actually show you!

I’m also a black belt and play rugby, which taught me that persistence really does pay off. Sometimes you need to tackle a problem from different angles, and I’m here to help you find the approach that works for your brain.

My students often say I make complex topics feel way less scary, and I genuinely enjoy every session.

My teaching style

My teaching style is all about making the complex feel simple and building genuine confidence along the way. I believe every student learns differently, so I adapt my approach to match how your brain works best – whether you’re a visual learner who needs diagrams and graphs, or someone who grasps concepts better through real-world examples.

I start by figuring out exactly where you’re getting stuck, then break down problems into bite-sized pieces that actually make sense. No rushing through topics just to tick boxes – we go at your pace until you truly understand the “why” behind every concept, not just the “how to get the answer.”

What really sets my approach apart is connecting everything to real life. When we’re doing calculus, I’ll show you how it’s used in finance or physics simulations. Studying probability? Let’s talk about how it applies to data science and market analysis. This isn’t just textbook stuff, it’s knowledge you’ll actually use.

I’m also big on creating a relaxed, encouraging environment where questions are always welcome. Made a mistake? Great, that’s how we learn! I remember being confused by these same topics, so there’s zero judgment here. My goal is to be the tutor I wish I’d had when I was struggling with these subjects.
Plus, I love celebrating those breakthrough moments with you. There’s nothing better than seeing a student go from “I hate maths” to “wait, this is actually pretty cool!” Trust me, it happens more often than you’d think.

My past experience

Absolutely! I’ve been tutoring for over four years as a Senior Tutor at ETC Tuition Centre, and it’s honestly been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

During this time, I’ve worked with students across different levels and helped 6-7 of them make dramatic improvements, we’re talking jumps from grade 5s/6s (B’s and C’s) up to 7s/8s (A’s and A*’s). But beyond the numbers, what I’m most proud of is how these students grew in confidence and actually started enjoying subjects they once dreaded.

I’ve also taken on leadership roles that involve teaching and mentoring. As Social Secretary for the Lincoln Physics and Maths Society, I organise events and help create a supportive community for students. This has taught me how to engage different personality types and make learning feel social and fun rather than isolating.

The best part? I’ve seen first hand how the right support can completely transform a student’s relationship with these subjects. Some of my former students have gone on to pursue STEM degrees themselves, which honestly makes me more proud than any of my own academic achievements. There’s something magical about watching someone discover they’re actually brilliant at something they thought they’d never understand.

My Proudest Achievements

My proudest achievement has to be watching my students transform from dreading maths and physics to genuinely enjoying them. Seeing various students jump from B’s and C’s to A’s and A*’s wasn’t just about grade improvements, it was about completely changing their relationship with learning.

On the academic side, I’m really proud of completing my Bachelors in Mathematics and Theoretical Physics with a 2:1 while working part-time as a tutor. Balancing both taught me incredible time management skills that I now share with my students. Currently pursuing my Masters with an expected Distinction feels pretty amazing too, especially since my thesis combines machine learning, data science, and finance, showing how all these subjects connect in the real world.

But honestly, my black belt in martial arts might be what I’m most proud of personally. It took years of discipline, persistence, and learning from countless mistakes, exactly the same mindset that helps students master challenging subjects. Plus, it taught me that breaking down complex techniques into smaller, manageable steps works for everything, whether it’s perfecting a roundhouse kick or solving differential equations.

Every time a former student messages me saying they aced their exam or chose to study engineering at university, that beats any personal achievement. That’s the real win.
